Middle of the Road 2001
I laid my head beside her,
And I was too young to understand,
The beauty that grew inside her,
Made by Mother Nature's hand,
I heard you before this world,
Felt your movement so forbidden,
Before anyone knew a girl,
Was the miracle tiny and hidden,
One day my mother disappeared,
I was scared alone and torn,
Never realised what I feared,
For it was because you were being born,
I went to the night an only child,
And woke up a sister next day,
All the stars in heaven smiled,
In a magical and wonderous way,
From then on we were together,
Jealousy soon melted away,
A bond so strong nothing could sever,
No road that could lead us astray,
You were always so full of magic,
So stubborn in every last way,
And it seems so cruel and tragic,
We can't live forever in those days,
We shared laughter and the tears,
The fighting and the love,
Secrets kept, we beat our fear,
Got through all the shitty stuff,
Yet I feel so helpless now,
Like there's nothing I can do,
I can't sort this out somehow,
And wipe those tears for you,
I just don't know what to expect,
Our lives they run away,
I'm supposed to shield and protect,
To brighten up your day,
To make sunshine from rain,
And rivers run from the sea,
Wash away the tears and pain,
Keep you safe from harm with me,
Keep your spirits up a while longer,
Push at the boundaries of time,
I know you will emerge stronger,
Once accomplished this hard uphill climb,
Your roundness rises and moves,
Keeps it's secrets hidden well,
The moon begs you to prove,
That beauty will soon follow hell,
From your youth to being old,
May Lady Luck be on your side,
Let your rainbows yield a pot of gold,
Your heart unleash the happiness once denied,
Be your body a temple or cave,
Built to withstand the stress,
To love don't be a slave,
Yet be tender to those you caress,
Facing up to what everyone knows,
And mothers they know best,
Every chick flys when she goes,
To fill up her own little nest,
Upon you a gift serendipitious and from nature bestowed,
A new beginning as you stand fortified in the middle of life's road
