The Ghost of Love
It breaks my heart
To see you like this
So broken and torn down
Sobbing where she left you
Despite my best efforts
I cannot revive you
From the living dead you've become
I only wish my love was enough
You always were so blind
So drunk on her you failed to see
That this friendly affection I harbored
Was so much more than that of a friend
And now she has left you
A mere ghost of yourself
And yet I continue to love you
Or am I in love with the man you were?
Perhaps I stay at your side
In hopes of requited affection
And the return of the man you once were
So I'll hope and i'll stay
Clinging to the shell of a man
And the foolish dreams of requited love
From a man who's heart is long gone
And who has no love to give
To see you like this
So broken and torn down
Sobbing where she left you
Despite my best efforts
I cannot revive you
From the living dead you've become
I only wish my love was enough
You always were so blind
So drunk on her you failed to see
That this friendly affection I harbored
Was so much more than that of a friend
And now she has left you
A mere ghost of yourself
And yet I continue to love you
Or am I in love with the man you were?
Perhaps I stay at your side
In hopes of requited affection
And the return of the man you once were
So I'll hope and i'll stay
Clinging to the shell of a man
And the foolish dreams of requited love
From a man who's heart is long gone
And who has no love to give
