Sounds of War
Metal pounding against splintering bone,
Battered hearts hammering on bruised ribs,
Prayers muttered through broken teeth,
These are the sounds of war.
Tears splashing onto blistering wounds,
Acidic words bombarding hollow thoughts,
Screams echoing through scarred minds,
These are the sounds of war.
Whispering ghosts invading restless dreams,
Songs of lost hope lingering upon dry tongues,
Cries of innocence ripping through distorted perceptions,
These are the sounds of war.
