Severed Rose
We are captured by the roses, in purest white of soul,
A beauty edged with crimson, where hints of love had grown.
The merging of great spirits, that crossed a fragile line
Gave their power to the roses, as their white and red combine
Yet the stem that once protected, seemed to tear those lives apart,
Destroying all the beauty, as it scarred a tender heart,
The pure unblemished petals soon faded through to grey
And the crimsoned edge of heartfelt love, wilted with decay.
In the beauty of the rose sits a breath of fragrant air,
Their moments of existence are a privilege to share
Such a tender gift of love that holds a poignant sad goodbye,
As once its stem is severed the rose prepares to die.
