In That Moment

In that moment,
The rest of the world became flat and small.
And we towered over it,
Because everything was simple now
And nothing else mattered anymore.
His familiar set of eyes,
So blue that I could almost see through them.
His short brown hair
That used to be a head of curls.
The same face of the person who I practically grew up with,
Oblivious for years
To what could have been.
This was the boy
Who had always been a brother to me,
With the childish heart
And the soul that was old and wise.
This was the friend
Who was willing to answer my calls at 3 am,
And stand up for me in the smallest situations,
And offer to kill every guy that ever hurt me.
This was the one
Who made fun of me for everything,
And spammed me with text messages,
And scooped my chin in his palm
Until I was ready to fight him.
If someone would have told me
Years ago
That this very moment
Would happen one day,
I never would have believed them.
It’s weird, kissing your best friend,
But in a good way.
His lips felt soft,
And sweet,
And more gentle than what I was used to.
It felt forbidden.
Like I was breaking a rule,
Crossing a barrier,
Cutting through a line of caution tape.
It wasn’t supposed to happen,
But at the same time,
It was.
For months I’d been wishing
On practically every eyelash,
11:11,
And shooting star I came across
With a wish that I wouldn’t dare to tell.
He said,
“I love you”
For the millionth time.
But this time sounded different
Than all of the others.
