Bullet The Sky That No Longer Is Blue
A building that has five sides in which so much is thrown
taxpayer dollars, that money we all make
feeling comes to trouble me
and despite the concealer of new shades of thinking
I can't shake the dread
Crisis comes a calling look at all their hats
President, the Secretaries, press spokesmen all the same
point the finger rise up with the big stick
only now we tell a dictator it is okay to kill
just do it without chemical weapons
that is what the "freedom lovers" prefer
Now the question I have heard no answer to is
will drone air strikes magically evaporate the threat
if the delivery system is destroyed will not the chemicals be released?
no, no there will be no "boots on the ground"
the national consensus is no more war
which is cute because when was the last time
war was declared?
We have Homeland Security even checking the books you read
CIA with a budget few of us will ever see
don't forget the FBI's talents
friends that can count on the US like clockwork
to bulk up their military pedigree
Yet what is missing are those agents of peace
the true apostles of change this world requires
no not a leader who wins a Nobel Peace Prize
and then ends up enlarging the war machine
now not so much troops, veterans still treated so bad
but the automation of combat
We can expand the choices of missile systems
tracking body heat and the like
yet the avenues of nonviolent coexistence
aren't profitable for the ardent capitalists
"Now am I bugging you? I don't mean to bug ya. OK, Edge. Play the blues".

Most excellent poem. It's not only the US, although they are the major player. Hate and war follow mankind wherever he goes, it seems.
Where do we find the peacemongers?

Well I am not so naive as to think war will ever be eliminated but as a famous scientist one said, "You can't simultaneously prevent and prepare for war". At one time many believed the peacemakers were found in the UN. Now the UN has become a mockery. My second choice for president in the Democratic primaries in 2008 proposed a Department of Peace. Wish Obama had listened to that suggestion. (Obama was my third favorite)

Excellent, I believe you just conveyed the voice of many who don't necessarily agree with the ongoing developments of current events. Frustration in despair.

Thanks Vee. I readily admit that my attempts to write about political issues can come off as nothing more then a tirade. I didn't even try to hide it here with words that rhyme.

It is times like these I always recall the words of Pete Seeger and the song "Where Have All The Flowers Gone". (I try to avoid the Kingston Trio version; that is one song where three voices just makes it sound too plain.

sigh...think I need to get a punching bag so I can take out the frustrations in a way that doesn't do damage to anyone. I also thought about water balloons and a bat or racket but that only works if I am outside.
Thanks for loaning me your eyes.

Thanks. I will confess that I was wasn't initially a U2 fan. It wasn't until "Joshua Tree" and the awakening of my political interests that I developed a fondness for the lads from Ireland.
I appreciate the kind comment.

Hello friend; great write man, always like reading bout this; however, am not very political, nor religious anymore, am just livin on faith, as the trust of fellow man, as I grow older, gets weaker and weaker, an harder to find reason to keep the faith... The first thing that Always comes to mind is you cant promise me peace by giving me war, it is very true my friend, before kingdoms can change, man must change... Take care my friend...

Thank you for the engaging comment. Similar to your comment about losing faith, I am not anywhere as partisan as I once was. As an undergraduate I was of the mind that if the right people could get into office, things would change. These days I am convinced that the good people will be those not office, forcing the politicians to change or find themselves out of power.
Your words have sparked a few ideas about future writes! Thanks again.

You know how a player can recognize another player? That is the one thing I will say about politicians; they will admit it is dirty. What gets me are people in more local positions like school boards and city councils, who claim to be in it just for the students or the city when they know dam well they are using the position as a springboard for a bigger political position.

The cover of TIME MAGAZINE this week was a photo of OBAMA...with the words: Why is a President who was elected because he promised to get us OUT of Iraq and other wars, is now trying to get us engaged in Syria?.....Your poem is excellent is deconstructing what is happening here....(song...what is happening here, there is a man with a gun over there....)........
I am bewildered by Obama's actions....he seems COMPLETELY DIFFERENT from when he started his first term. Then he looked like he could handle the job.......now he looks like he is in over his head.....STRANGE FOR SUCH AN INTELLIGENT MAN....His relations with Putin show NO understanding of the Russian mind. We are back to the US vs Russia via the Middle East Oil Interests.....
Good poem
Food for lots of thought

Personally I think he has surrounded himself with advisors that all have the same mentality and posh Ivy League training. I recall shortly after he was elected both friends involved in the Democratic Party and well placed Democrats on a national level tried to offer him advice. He seems to listen to only a select group of advisors. A bit different from the last Democrat in office who had a need to consult with everyone. I don't see Hillary Clinton doing any better either, despite the fact that her husband was that last Democratic president I mentioned earlier.
