Desire and Need

It's one thing
to put off a desire,
but quite another
to fight a need.

Decide which one
you're looking at
and act accordingly.

If you merely want it,
test that theory.

But if you need it,
why torture yourself?

She looks longingly
into the mirror
of her emotions
and knows
her aching
so deeply
that to not have it
is to do without
something needed
deep within.

She says to herself
that she shouldn't want it,
but then her emotions
tell her that
she doesn't need permission.

She combs her hair
and counts to one million.

She wants for him
to mold her body
into flames
and molten lava,
but it's the magma
underneath
that feels the heat.

She wants to feel herself
undone, disclosed,
laid waste,
crashed like waves
on a solid surf,
tumble rock
break crush
splash spill
flash spin
whip tilt
hot spun.

She needs
what she wants,
and her desires
are as aligned
as the planets:
Mars, Venus,
Earth.
