Withered

Lo, how this lust for power has brought me low
Broken and withered like a corpse
So many days of seething hatred
Has burned as much to leave me shattered
     And torn

Thought by myself to be among the dead
Rotting away in a lonely grave
I have learned I am merely a wisp
A shadow of the man as I used to be as I
     Shun the day

I have haunted bridges and jailed in towers
Like a wolf with a broken jaw
Harmless to all as if I armless
I glide silently at the mid-nightmare hour
     Within the halls

Consulted long ago before the crows took flight
Doom was sounded by mission bells
I have sat with demons, consorted others
Looking for ways to escape the madness and
     Leave this hell

Lo, how I have been keep so low beneath it all
I have juggled pacts, slept in ice
Just to keep myself away from sight
In the grip of chaos, I have wrestled with sin
     Just to fall to vice

Here I am bound forever and still I
Wish for open doorway
To sprint to freedom and beyond
If only I could escape I would find my fate
     Within a new day
