What is this sadness
this singularity
from which no light escapes
this dark force of my own nature
with its awful gravity
Every part of me
is now attracted
to that place of all beginnings
before time began
Absent time no memory forms
therefore, I will not worry
what dreams may come
No, I would not resist
this shrinking orbit
Even if I could

I sent this to a poet friend of mine who suggested the poem could also be used as " 'grounding' in a poem of additional reach," adding that I should consider a narrative poem that precedes these lines, such that this poem is a way of "thoughtfully addressing" some part of my life. I am strongly considering the idea (especially since this poem began as an effort to finally complete this poem:
The Undiscovered Country1
Months since that stillborn morning
when they pulled me, ashen, from your arms
I did not ask to be delivered
from the endless evening to the dawn
fn1 another phrase from Hamlet's Soliloquy
One thing though. While I've seen it done, I am less than confident about the structure. My thought would be more to intersperse the stanzas rather than merely set one part after the other. *cogitating*
