The Ashes of Christ
A spirit with godlike powers once filled a void
Filled millions of hearts with hope and joy
His only son was placed upon a cross
After he died for our sins, all was lost
Then came those with the word of God
With whips, blades and the divining rod
Told us what we could believe in
Killing thousands for made up sins
Over years the Son would slowly fade
Into cold and blurring shade
We lost what we were made to learn
The ashes of Christ scattered in turn
Finally it became safe to pray
Once the faith had become grey
The day that faith finally broke
A creator swinging from a rope
As sheep, we pretend that it is still real
Still under persecution and the kill
But go and look up into the blue
There is no one there watching you
Filled millions of hearts with hope and joy
His only son was placed upon a cross
After he died for our sins, all was lost
Then came those with the word of God
With whips, blades and the divining rod
Told us what we could believe in
Killing thousands for made up sins
Over years the Son would slowly fade
Into cold and blurring shade
We lost what we were made to learn
The ashes of Christ scattered in turn
Finally it became safe to pray
Once the faith had become grey
The day that faith finally broke
A creator swinging from a rope
As sheep, we pretend that it is still real
Still under persecution and the kill
But go and look up into the blue
There is no one there watching you
