Phase III

She says
it's easier
to get yelled at
than to get permission.

So, she does
what she wants
to do.

Travelling dangerously
and living loudly,
she sits
in the living room
with the volume
on full
the game plugged in,
the movie cued up,
the food lined up,
the drink cups filled,
the bags strewn,
the phone blazing,
the entire house
at her beck
and call.

And what did she do
to warrant this all?

She sat down
and pouted
until everyone gave in
and then
she had to do nothing.

Everything had been
taken away.

They had laid
all the guilt trips
on her.

No one
could tell her
what to do.

She moved in,
took over,
and went to work
on doing
as she pleased.

She did not think
about the costs
of each step
and she needed many.

Pretty soon
everyone was tired
of her taking
the best
and leaving none.

She gained weight
and spread out
and owned it all
and everyone
moved on without her,
stuck where she was
and unable to take a step further
than her last bite.

She suddenly frowned
at her loneliness.

How post-modern.
