Made the Effort

I tried my hardest
I did my best
But in the end
I've failed this test
For the end has come
And the giver has gone
She left me lonely
And weak like a fawn

I did all I could
Gave her all that I had
Wrote poems upon end
To calm her from mad
Or to enchant her dearly
And maybe make her cry
I thought I was him
Her one dream guy

But in the end I just wasn't
I couldn't be there
And being alone
She just couldn't bear
So left me alone
In this cell of my mind
She has moved on
And left me behind

Though it does hurt
I've learned much from it
Learned how to love
And to benefit
Learned how to comfort
And make all fears cease
And when I apply these
Then I can know peace

I'm happy for the time
That I spent with her
Looking back now
It seems like a blur
But better to have loved
And to have loss
Than to never have loved
And in end be lost
