My Name is not Jessica
Dear Jessica,
Cover the picture frame glass
With a Disney wash cloth
Or a thick old sock.
Set it on the corner
Of the bathroom counter
Smash it with your fist.
Boom boom crack
It shatters with ease.
Pick out the prettiest piece
Drag it across you skin
Paint the shard in shades
Of bloody red sunsets.
When you are cutting
You are perfect.
Your soft pink scars
Make you a princess.
You're beautiful, little fighter
With the body of a woman
Full breasts, thighs and hips
Don't buy society's bullshit
Love your body, don't change it.
Your heart is golden
But your hope is gone
And the lines on your skin
Give your friends a road map
To try and find it.
In the end
You will be recovered
It will just take
Most of your life.
One day you will write
The success story
Of a sparkling survivor
Who is also a statistic silencer
Because you are living
And you are alive
Even though at one point
All your monsters were convincing you
That you had died.
Love, Lindsey
