Hollow Promises

You promised me something.
Something special, just between us.
You looked me in the eyes,
looked through me, straight into me,
and you said, "This is for You.
Nobody but You."
 
And then one day
you said you'd changed.
That what you said didn't matter anymore.
You said it was a promise,
and like all promises,
it was made to be broken.
 
And now there's someone else,
and I wonder,
Did you tell him the same?
Does he believe he'll be the only one,
The one you'll give your love to,
never to forsake him?
 
And when he entered you that first time
Did you tell him to go slow
because your heart was tender?
Or did he dive into you with reckless abandon
the same way I did that first time
when another heart was aching for you?
 
And when you change your mind again
Will he mind?
Will he easily move on and find another?
Or will he be shattered, unable to trust,
the way you left me
While you find someone else to make hollow promises to?
