Image for the poem Early Hours

Early Hours

The fingerprints on the wine glass
The ones I didn't wash away.
Just tucked away at the back collecting memories.

The same ones  left on the chrome bedstead
That you pulled on as Our lovemaking reached
It's peak in those early hours,
Tracing the outlines with wistful thoughts

Shouting out unscripted sounds
Whispering our keepsakes of love

Broadening the smiles
Holding tight as wreckage survivors.
The kisses of life we gave.
Never wishing to be rescued.

In those early hours

We saved our souls..
We saved each other.
