A Lover Gone

Someone left you, nameless
Someone destroyed your face and escaped, blameless
They walk free, among the innocent
Shameless, after beating you into the pavement
With cuts and bruises you were found
Left in bloody pieces on the ground
You left home so naive
So it was easy for him to make you believe
Oh he loved you, yes he did, he loves you
He loved you so much he killed you
Now it's me whispering love into your ashes
I let belated tears fall from frozen lashes
I cling to the promise of a coming dawn
When all of this will be a mere bygone
One day, I will run to you
To the unmutilated version of you that I knew
Until then I say goodbye
And for now, drown myself this life and drink an alcoholic lie
