An Ugly Society

In a society where the only beauty 
Appreciated is completely false
How can you indicate true beauty

Beauty today is revolting
A thick mask of make-up
It is disease, disorder
It is expensive clothes
A number on a scale
Fake hair and painful hair removal

Beauty is screams of pain 
And silent torture
It is fixing every little flaw
Conforming to the nonconformist

Beauty is disgusting
Trying to make each child fit an image
Adjusting them, reshaping them
Changing who they are

Behind closed doors no one is happy
They will never be perfect
They stare in the mirror 
As their own defects hit their self esteem
Each hit knocks it down lower and lower and lower
Until we are nothing but falsehood 
Nothing but shells of people
Trying to "fit" in 
Trying to be "beautiful" 

When in reality 
we don't even know 
the definition of it

In a society where beauty is unobtainable
How can we recognize it
How could our world ever reach it's full potential
How is there hope
