Reflection

Hate is a mirror on your chest that you can’t lift
You lay on the ground desperately trying to shove it off
Others pass, parents, siblings, grandparents
They walk by without noticing the blood on your fist
Nor the mirror repairing itself

Denial is the glass implanted inside your hand
With each blow more is lodged in
Yet you still choose to ignore it
Smearing the image with your blood
Just so you don’t have to look at it

Broken is the broken knuckles
Bones misplaced and skin torn off
Beating the concrete screaming for help
Yet being denied acknowledgment

Indifference is the mirror being shattered
No longer able to withstand the assault
Glass glittering in the tear stains
Standing up shaking the glass off
Meaningless smiles pleasing mindless watchers
Plucking the glass from the wounds
Water from hell burning flesh so it isn't so cold
Not flinching when it pelts open gashes

Pain is going to sleep at night not knowing who you are
Pain is waking up with a mirror showing you what you’re not
