Without a father

Daddy daddy! Sing me a lullaby.
As she wiggled about in her tiny
Bed, begging for the sound of his
Sweet voice to caress her intentive ears. He gave her a patient smile and began to sing the melody of a thousand angels. she clapped her hands and her face was glazed with excitement. He sang songs only a 4 year old could understand, he watched the chipped barbie nail polish flutter like butterflies as her speed increased. Her smile widened till her missing teeth began to revel. The song came to an end and already her eyes shone with wet tears. I love you daddy! Never leave me she begged. Her bottom lip began to quiver and she pulled her knees closer, her small toes hidden under the blanket. He held her tight and reassured the small girl, calming her rapid heart beat. A shadow flickered as her mom stopped and lingered in the door way. Who are u talking to? She questioned with a worried glance at the open space beside the small girl. Her gray eyes looked blood shot and her face sticky with sweat. Talking to daddy she replied with enthusiasm bursting from the scene. A tear rolled down her mother's cheek, but why? Could she not see daddy sitting beside me? Or the way he smiled at her and longed for her happiness? He reached out to her but she left without a word. A sad expression plastered on his perfectly carved face and his tears sparkled like diamonds as they caressed his cheek. She lifted her tiny hand a wiped away the dreadful tear and blew him a kiss. Daddy she whispered never leave me and Mommy ever again. He gave her another smile and watched her tiny body go limp as she fell asleep.
