Quiet Song
~This is about a couple, married for 45 years, who died
less than 24 hours apart, the wife died then the husband after
losing her, he was said to be completely heartbroken~
He gently sponges her
sunkissed skin, as tenderness
envelopes the aura of their unity...
stroke, after stroke for hours
while they pour into days...
He struggles
to remember
their vibrancy
in the face of mortality's quiet echo...
Valiantly futile, and tireless, he trudges on
in an effort to gift her a moment's relief
from the scourge of pain,
evident only by the crystallized tears
obscuring her view...
Brushing aside her finely coiffed hair,
momentarily recapturing yesterday's
lost smiles as his falls away
With delicately applied kisses
that straddles the face
of an angel, lost inside her shell,
yet, unable to thank him...
Thank him for caring
Thank him for his loyalty
Thank him for his love
Thank God for giving her...
This last day,
to feel the exhilaration of
a soul...
locked securely in the depths of love
as she inevitably fades away...
into eternity's uncertain abyss...
