My Slam Poem 2013, Needs Some Suggestions!

(Title: My Honest Poem)
Hi, my name is Ashley.
I'm 4 feet 11 inches tall, addicted to coffee and I believe that life has a funny way of doing things.
I like the way the stars line up like soldiers every night,
because it makes me feel safe knowing that they're all battling for me.
You see,
I've been stumbling over my self esteem,
Until the day you finally picked me up and got me back on my feet.
And I love you like the tide loves the shore,
Because even through the highs and lows,
They still meet each other halfway.
My biggest fear in life is death,
Simply because it's an ugly truth, and life is almost always a beautiful lie.
And if I had a penny for every time I thought of you, I'd be satisfied living my life in poverty,
Because the day you crossed my mind,
You never left.
When I grow up,
I want to be a teacher.
I'm still waiting for my letter from Hogwarts,
And I will for the rest of my life.
I don't like Jell-O and the best way to eat GoGurt is straight from the freezer, in the middle of summer.
And speaking of summer,
That's my favorite time of the year because that's when birds fall in love,
And bugs fall in love, and people fall in love,
And the weather is warm, and there's no homework,
And your parents look at each other like it's the first time they ever fell in love.
Sometimes I wish that it could be summer all year long,
Sometimes I wish that I could hold your hand all year long,
I wish that I could live inside your bones,
So I could hear your heartbeat from the inside.
Loving you is like breathing underwater,
Some say it's impossible, but when you split up impossible you get I'm Possible,
And that's how I feel whenever I'm with you.
And so I try to breathe underwater because love makes you stupid and reckless and senseless,
But that's okay because I'm only knee deep,
So I can still stand up and not drown.
I don't know when you'll get this,
But just know that I'm sorry if we ever fought about what to watch on TV,
Or how to stack the dishes or where to go for dinner,
Because I've realized that whatever time I get with you,
Is better than not having you at all.
And I hope you would still love me even if I were blind because love does not see with the eyes,
It feels with the heart.
When people ask me about my future husband,
I don't really know what to say,
Other than I know he'll be imperfect in so many perfect ways.
And now that I think about it,
That sounds a lot like you.
