Friends From Back Home

our little group of friends
yeah it didnt get much closer than that
we were more like family
always had each others backs
if you talked about one of us
you had to face us all
man we sure thought we were tough
oh

we were dirt road poor
but country rich
the best of friends since little kids
now we've all grown up
and went our separte ways
but if they ever needed anything
all they'd have to do is say
cuz we've seen each others ups and downs
no matter how far you go
you just cant beat your friends from back home

i remember more times then we should have
skipping class
and heading out to the river
throwing rocks
and talkin about the future
we thought
we'd have it all figured out by now
thought we'd be right on track
but somtimes
oh sometimes i want those old days back

we were dirt road poor
but country rich
the best of friends since little kids
now we've all grown up
and went our separte ways
but if they ever needed anything
all they'd have to do is say
cuz we've seen each others ups and downs
no matter how far you go
you just cant beat your friends from back home

we thought we knew better
as long as we were all together
its crazy the way things change
guess i should have known they wouldnt stay the same
oh

we were dirt road poor
but country rich
the best of friends since little kids
now we've all grown up
and went our separte ways
but if they ever needed anything
all they'd have to do is say
cuz we've seen each others ups and downs
no matter how far you go
you just cant beat your friends from back home
