Cheating Solitaire
These gaunt beggars I’ve sown
these one-eyed gamblers
squinting down outstretched
palms of half tells
and nothing-to
shows
except you
soothe
the wounded doubts
scratched
by a clock’s reckless fingers
know
the ribcage of my obsession
put out my eyes
with your own
unraveling tangled nests
of shiny pointed thoughts
vacuum
the breath
out of every empty space
where I...
these one-eyed gamblers
squinting down outstretched
palms of half tells
and nothing-to
shows
except you
soothe
the wounded doubts
scratched
by a clock’s reckless fingers
know
the ribcage of my obsession
put out my eyes
with your own
unraveling tangled nests
of shiny pointed thoughts
vacuum
the breath
out of every empty space
where I...

Tourmaline
it comes when summer
is a geisha fan unfolding
for the soaring heat
something in the cabinet
aged to silly perfection
more beautifully grotesque
than a hammerhead shark
with tourmaline eyes
a large tree
found
growing inside
of Carlsbad
is less puzzling
than this love
is a geisha fan unfolding
for the soaring heat
something in the cabinet
aged to silly perfection
more beautifully grotesque
than a hammerhead shark
with tourmaline eyes
a large tree
found
growing inside
of Carlsbad
is less puzzling
than this love

Drawn
the sad in you drew me
into you
dear one
not the laughter
or refined bits
the melancholy
song that clouds
your lovely form
your movements
are precisely
timed
to keep it down
the wounded nature
in your smile
the careful words you speak
the cautious way your head
tilts so your eyes
can look around
the way you brace
yourself
for the impact of a gist
oh you can fool the fools ...
into you
dear one
not the laughter
or refined bits
the melancholy
song that clouds
your lovely form
your movements
are precisely
timed
to keep it down
the wounded nature
in your smile
the careful words you speak
the cautious way your head
tilts so your eyes
can look around
the way you brace
yourself
for the impact of a gist
oh you can fool the fools ...

Fresh
A siren twitched
in the flowers,
the spring died
on a chilled
June day.
It surprised the park,
injected a hint of morgue
into the morning.
The stillness of birds
folded in the wind,
there were leggy
insect clusters.
The air was shiny
as a glass full
of mercury
and I wasn’t
drunk anymore
in the flowers,
the spring died
on a chilled
June day.
It surprised the park,
injected a hint of morgue
into the morning.
The stillness of birds
folded in the wind,
there were leggy
insect clusters.
The air was shiny
as a glass full
of mercury
and I wasn’t
drunk anymore
