POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
“You write your first draft with your heart. And you rewrite with your head..; the first key to writing, is…to write; not to think.” - William Forrester, Finding Forrester
Curious
It is a curious thing,
Even heartbreaking:
That the eyes ever seeking light
Might turn from its splendor;
The heart seeking home
Might elect a vagabond existence;
The soul begging for God
Might ever withdraw from him.

Might elect a vagabond existence;
The soul begging for God

Proud
We might have
laughed our way into age,
growing older,
shorter,
wider,
together.
Instead,
we parted,
while yet young
and thin
and proud.

Instead,
we parted,
while yet young
and thin
and proud.

Shame
How easily
I fell;
How easily
I plucked away
The letters from
‘My lovE’
And
Fell into
The folly of
‘ME’
I fell;
How easily
I plucked away
The letters from
‘My lovE’
And
Fell into
The folly of
‘ME’

Eyes
Autumn mornings,
Foggy grey,
A bittersweet
Sort of day;
Woodsmoke lingers
In the breeze,
And deeply now
I pause to breathe;
The sun rises warm,
The sky clears to blue,
And I miss the grey
That reminds me of you.

Finale
Thunderstorm without,
And all these city lights
Blending neon watercolor:
Kaleidoscopic sight.
The drops, in rhythm,
Tap the pane;
Now and then a thunder crash
Bellows it’s refrain.
I stand alone,
Within this busy home;
A final breath to breathe,
Ere again I must roam.

Winter
The room, once white,
now fading gold;
The day, once young,
is growing old.
now fading gold;
The day, once young,
is growing old.

Torn
Loneliness is in my name;
Longing just to be known.
But such desire seems bring shame,
And I feel it can never be shown.

But such desire seems bring shame,
And I feel it can never be shown.

Seasons
She dances as the autumn gold
Falling from the trees;
As soft and pure as a new
Breath out of the sea;
Her laughter is a sudden burst
Of warm summer sea breeze;
And shining bright as Christmas lights
Her eyes brim with joie de vivre.
Falling from the trees;

Character
Beauty is a garden
At the edge of Winter’s whim;
Character is an oak
Undaunted by its wind.

Some sort of wishy-washy magical mediocrity,
This random set of similar numbers
Grinning on the clock face;
I fall asleep with the lights on,
With liquor in my veins,
And I can’t figure if these are to
Ward off the memories of you
Or bring them back again;
They’ll say
I never knew what love was about.
You rarely
Showered me with grace.
But I suppose
I might break again
Should I see the wonder of your face.
I can never win you back.
My dreams all play in grey.
But, oh! All that I would give ...

Heart
I think I figured out
why I never took you up
on that parting drink:
You’d have walked into that bar,
a shimmer on a storm cloud,
just as beautiful as
every day I had with you.
You’d have smiled awkwardly,
that weird sort of uncertain smile
that I wanted to kiss
again and again.
We’d have talked,
maybe laughed,
maybe hugged,
but at the end we’d go out the door
under the star-flecked sky
and you’d ask me why
and I’d ask you why (but I knew).
I cannot keep what is not mine, ...
why I never took you up
on that parting drink:
You’d have walked into that bar,
a shimmer on a storm cloud,
just as beautiful as
every day I had with you.
You’d have smiled awkwardly,
