Letting The Mind Go
To the fallen who lost the battle with or within.
I know it best because the battle never ends.
From the overdoses and the suicides.
To the ones who could not care to even try.
There are those of us who sit alone and cry.
Confused how we made it while others died.
Those who struggle with haven taken lives.
And others who lost their cheating wives.
There's a lot to learn after a war.
Like how to move on and live some more.

Teufel Hunden
The metals on my chest proudly displayed, for the Marines who could not be here today.
The red stripe down my leg strutted with honor, for the leadership that I led that did not falter.
Dress blues and white hats, gold belt buckles and pressed pants.
Like Cinderella, we Marines also have a ball, on November 10 to remember when we were all called.
Happy Marine Corps Birthday to every Devil Dog.
Semper Fidelis, to those who died but still stand tall.

War O.I.F.
Sorry there is no love poem today, just a mind on replay.
Like the first day in Iraq thinking will I ever make it back.
Continuous mortar attacks and walking in the pitch black.
Marines singing cadences as we ran in packs.
The weight of my rifle and my lips feeling chapped.
Waking up to explosions then rolling over not to miss a wink.
130 degree days then at night the freeze biting at my feet.
MREs to eat and hot water bottles to drink.
Remembering the sound of helicopter blades chopping the air.
Wondering how in the hell did I make it out of there

"I Believe In Miracles", is what I saw itched above my bed in jail.
The first time I read it I thought, "I'd like to believe that as well".
Months passed and now I'm here.

There's no Crocodile ticking.
And no Captain Hook to spoil our plans.
I stand and agree with Liam, when he declared I was your boyfriend.

I want you to be there when I get home from work.
The thought of you being there out weighs the possibilities of being hurt.
Sorry it took me so long to figure out what you were worth.
One in a million, but honestly there is no one else like you here on this earth.
These words are truly coming from the heart.
New beginnings like these feel like a brand new start.
I do not know what the future yet will bring.
But I'm hoping it has something to do with you by my side and a diamond ring.

I'm not to sure what it is about you that I love.

I text you in the morning just to make sure that you're up.
And we talk at night just because it's you that I love.
I'm glad we're building this relationship on patience and trust.
Solely on open conversation and not just another fuck.
