Frosty greetings on the green outside my door
Icy tracings left by frozen spectres of the night
Mirroring the lonely lines inside my mind
Where chilly ghosts of you remind my reaching arms
That as the summer brown-eyed Susans you have wilted
Gone, those sunny petals of your wistful smile
Left alone the dotted memories of a love forever chained
Yet I will don my winter coverings

First Snow on the Mountains
Those regal heights across our little sea
Donned their color-changing coats of magic
Overnight
Their grand entrance to my sight this morn
In pinkish hues reflected from the rising sun
Mere minutes they had softened
into sky-reflected purest snowy white
With bluish traces of each line & crevice
Elegant these earliest of residents
Ruling over sea & stream & forest dense
Timeless guardians of the land
In your beauty

You are the 1
to whom my heart will always run
It is your face alone
that draws my gaze
The lines of your profile
The only form I long
to lovingly caress
It is the depths of your ocean
In which my eyes would swim
E’en but the memory of your voice
Is most-loved music where my soul can rest
And your words,
though now only imagined,
Burn the warmest in my life
It’s only ever always
You

There’s more empty
For the missing you to fill just now
This reaching need finds only darkness hollow
Where you belong within my sight
Lie but faded memories
Only white noise where your voice should be
Your body fails to greet
Hungry lips & fingers that would trace your form

the more these phantoms haunt my now
