The Staircase
Today I saw a staircase
Climbing toward the sky
And there on the bottom step
Were standing you and I.
We stood there still and gazing
Into each others eyes
But all too soon the feeling changed
And you began to rise.
Even though you forged ahead
You frequently looked back.
To make sure I was still okay
Behind, but still on track.
Then I passed you on the stairs
We touched, as I expected
I moved on ahead of you
But our souls remained connected.
So it went throughout the years
Until all...

What I Love
The first thing I loved was your eyes.
I fell in and to my surprise,
Was certain I'd fallen before.
The next thing I loved was your smile.
A little lopsided and while
I looked at it, I smiled too.
Then I fell in love with your laugh.
Its resonance showed me the path
To loving the rest of you.
When I felt the thrill of your touch
The electrical current was such
I wanted to be plugged in forever.
I noticed that I loved your mind.
The thoughts you shared were the kind
That showed me the good man you...

You Get Me
I was looking
But I wasn't looking for you.
Then you changed everything.
You became my compass and
I became your true north.
When your eyes turn soft
as soon as you see me
And the corners of your mouth
turn up just the tiniest bit
I know that
You get me.
I can catch your glance and know that
We are thinking exactly the same thing.
I know you get me because
When I am with you
I am more me
Than I am with anyone else.

Dear Toilet Paper
Dear toilet paper
I always seem to find
A lack of you upon the wall
When I sit on my behind.
A roll of you dear toilet paper
Is not what it should be
And you're always running out
When I have to pee.
The ads on television
Say great things about you
But I just want to have some
When I have to poo.
And when I find you at the store
You really cost a lot
I might as well use dollar bills
With which to wipe my butt.
I always seem to find

Unfinished Business
Long ago we started this
And ended it with just a kiss.
But the end for me has always been
Somewhere out of reach.
Regrets are usually not my thing
Learn to live with what life brings.
But I do regret the night that we
Chose prudence over passion.
My life these past few years or so
Has had its highs and had its lows.
But always at the core was you.
Unfinished business stalks my soul.
Sometimes I felt I hated you.
Was angry, anxious and confused.
Joyful , jealous, grateful, sad
Unfinished business fills my head.

This Forbidden Thing
Attraction
Physical; emotional
Weaving in and out of each others consciousness
Always somewhere
Waking, Sleeping
You are caught up in the web of my dreams
Cascading through the chasms in my mind
Touching - running
We're so afraid to say it
But
More afraid to lose it
Time does not decrease it.
Change does not destroy it.
Always there
Sometimes buried deeper
Shallow now
Strong
Resilient
This forbidden thing
