Gumbo on the Bayou
Fresh from your shower
you drop your towel
I swear the holy Trinity stood before me
patted dry to perfection
spreading oil over your deep fryer
I sautéed over to your side
noting its going to take both hands
and a big spoon
to stir everything you’re dishing out
combining your floured whiteness
with my heated drippings
is going to make a perfect roux
but let’s turn the heat up slowly
we wouldn’t want to scorch anything
Mmmm I can smell what you’re stirring
a little seafood added to the mix
and don’t forget my...

Can’t Outrun the Call of Nature
depends, depends, I need a depends
this old one has sprung a bad leak
next time I scream drive faster

STORY POEM

Stone Faced
I stood and watched you
drive away
not so much as a wave
or finger
kicking at the dirt I uncovered
a rock
picking it up I noted it’s
jagged edges
shortly afterwards introducing it to
my pocket
maybe good luck
maybe not
over the next few months
that rock
turned over between my fingers until
rubbed smooth
about a year later filling up my car at the
corner store
afterwards I headed inside to buy a
six pack
was a few cents shy on
the price
as my hand searched ...

Awakening
Near summer, end of 6th grade
she had the gift of gab
me the comedic bad boy
my permanent record already sad
she’d already been warned twice
third time marched out to the hall
classroom quiet
waiting for the first swat to fall
I was leading the class in counting
as the paddle smacked bare skin
me in rare form
just as teacher walked her back in
my turn in the hall
a shrug and half hearted wave
another sacrificed bottom
for the callousness I’d displayed
mercifully the school day ended ...

Evergreen and pine scent wafted
from the deep woods
a cardinal perched on a holly branch
seemed a staged holiday greeting
the crunch of footsteps
interrupted the hushed silence of snow
wood smoke from a cheery hearth
beckoned weary travelers
laden with good cheer
as whats left of Fall
wobbled off into the chilled night
gobbled up by winter
from the deep woods

Pleasure is a dish best served
hot and steamy
drizzling senses
with thoughts so creamy
flows long blocked
on the verge of being freed
hidden desires stiffening
parting clinched knees
suppressed subconscious thoughts
resurface in sheets of nightmare fits
once more demanding a vote
the people vs prudence: use it or loose it
nakedness alone in no mans land
waves it’s banner: be of a cheerful giver
laughing eyes line the battlefields
rattling sabers: stand and deliver!

Right as Rain
We lay side by side
in the cool morning grass
staring up at clouds
as they silently drifted past
at first there were dogs and cats
and a dragon of old
then I felt her stiffen
as she offered something bold
looks like someone up there has an erection
I agreed but added it wasn’t an ordinary prick
she said I know, it’s uncircumcised
without hardly missing a click
the question was out before I could think
how’d she know of such things as that
and immediately I felt her let go
consumed by a giggle attack ...

She said, let’s go camping
it’ll be fun
by the light of the moon
maybe i’ll show you my bum
he thought, that’s not fair
whose brain can rationalize
saying no to sex outdoors
under moonlit skies
