POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Slave no more
silvery haze, a cloud
of death hangs over
drowns in stench
smothers
an escape made
none too soon
grip broken
unhanded by
chain demolished
addiction destroyed
the ash falls
no more
life reclaimed
a battle fought
victory foreseen
momentary bliss
trays emptied
cancer supply
diminished
no more
of death hangs over
drowns in stench
smothers
an escape made
none too soon
grip broken
unhanded by
chain demolished
addiction destroyed
the ash falls
no more
life reclaimed
a battle fought
victory foreseen

One Week's Joy
An enormous step forward
momentous, the accomplishment
however
only a spec of the big picture
Progress
none the less
more so than previous
endeavors destined for failure
Swelling, brimming
overflowing in confidence
never more sure
of my ability to change
No longer afraid
come what may
addiction
I have your number

none the less

New attempt at a year
The new year has come, we are all aware
time for resolutions
some sane, some undoubtedly unattainable
yet we try
somewhat
hoping for a moment we can forget
previous failed attempts
yet that memory holds fast
unwilling to be let go
a constant
perpetual reminder
leading to and inevitable downfall
keep trying..
keep trying...

The battle of niche and changing lifestyles
A thousand times tried
failed a thousand more
no stranger to whats in store
for the next attempt inside
trying to make changes
to ways held steadfast
stuck deep within the past
on a scale it ranges
for my son I aim high
no longer do I wish to fall
before I walk, I must crawl
to teach him better than I
sure, mistakes were made
lessons harshly learned
important bridges burned
games, unfairly played
Too true, my thoughts combat me
non-self trusting
inner psyche rusting
how hard can it really be?

Life through the eyes of the recently Sober
Stinging clarity
Over aware
Hazy reality
a feeling, bare.
Fresh to the world
thrown from my safety net
spinning, reeling
Can I go home yet?
Thoughts of hate
rage unfiltered
Brief pause,
tranquility ensues
Teeth of the mind
return to their grind
Pain
Mental
Physical
This...

Food of the Soul
The stench, aroma
so beautifully foul
some love, some hate
most look on with a scowl
Emerald nuggets of gold
a bounty fit for kings
great for young and old
its own glory, it sings
released by glass and flame
or paper wrappings
it has earned its own fame
captured in these trappings
Its name varies across nations
But all announce the one
more kind than medications
a cornerstone of fun
so beautifully foul
some love, some hate
most look on with a scowl

Fighting my battle
A new day
bright, shining.
Patiently, the beast waits
for a weak moment.
No luck for said beast
Iron-willed, I entertain this demon.
Dancing wildly
on the edge of insanity.
Enjoying the thought of victory,
and tasting its spoils.
One day closer
to that finish line.
Where joy resides, and
addiction goes to die
bright, shining.
Patiently, the beast waits
for a weak moment.
No luck for said beast
Iron-willed, I entertain this demon.
Dancing wildly
on the edge of insanity.
Enjoying the thought of victory,
and tasting its spoils.
One day closer
to that finish line.
Where joy resides, and
addiction goes to die

Fighting Nicotine
Itch
unable to scratch
the horror
nagging, aching, horror
The solution
so simple
but failure follows resolution
a conundrum
A void
desperate to be filled
I can't
mustn't
Build a wall between
the hole and myself
this battle will be won
unable to scratch
the horror
nagging, aching, horror
The solution
so simple
but failure follows resolution
a conundrum
A void
desperate to be filled
I can't
mustn't
Build a wall between
the hole and myself
this battle will be won

Unforseen Glory
Elated, excited
overflowing energy
unbeknownst origin
dwelling deep within
joyous, unexplainable
happiness abundant
where did it come from
my question to the gods
complaints, none
feeling not unwanted
hope
for more to come
overflowing energy
unbeknownst origin
dwelling deep within
joyous, unexplainable
happiness abundant
where did it come from

for more to come

Smog
inhale the smoke
breathe in the poison
exhale life
death becomes you
darkness unfolds
vision all but clear
there is no more noise
your death is near.

darkness unfolds
vision all but clear
there is no more noise

A Turning Point
The tears, they run
away from the pain
a sickness in the mind
a sickness of a different kind
Eating away at me
tearing its way inside
trying hard to put up fight
but this creature, too much might
I die a little
each time it appears
no chance for salvation
this is my revelation
away from the pain
a sickness in the mind
a sickness of a different kind
Eating away at me
tearing its way inside
trying hard to put up fight
but this creature, too much might
I die a little
each time it appears
no chance for salvation
this is my revelation

Homesick
a feeling
hiding under cover of skin
under cover of pride
nagging, pulling
fighting to escape
tears overstocked
kept in, too, by pride
ready to release
but no such relief
overwhelming in strength
a longing for
the unattainable at best
at most a wish
destined to remain one
oh well
hiding under cover of skin
under cover of pride
nagging, pulling
fighting to escape
tears overstocked
kept in, too, by pride
ready to release
but no such relief
overwhelming in strength
a longing for
the unattainable at best
at most a wish
destined to remain one
oh well
