POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
Spit fire and star shine. A vast yet desolate sea of self.
Up Here (Unfinished)
Youth
Invincibility
Gravity is only relevant
When you realize you're falling.
& You're never as lost
As when you know all you've got to lose.
Up here.
Where the air is thinner.
Invincibility
Gravity is only relevant
When you realize you're falling.
& You're never as lost
As when you know all you've got to lose.
Up here.
Where the air is thinner.

Sahara Sweet
These words are elusive,
Water in a desert
Where my lips are chapped
My tongue parched.
I have chased mirages of them,
Though never brave enough to trust
The illusion to quench
But god do I keep coming back for more
Because the taste of new love is sweeter
Than the scorn of its defeat.
& I have nibbled the syllables in the face of back-alley boys
Keen on tearing heart from chest,
Taste off my tongue,
Treasure bound and buried under the sea of my exes.
But god do I keep hungering for it
Because escape like free...

Senselessly Sensible
Gathering dust and cobwebs, despite steadily planting one foot in front of the other.
Weighed down by wasting away.
Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary, How does your garden grow?
Slowly now with withered stems, refusing to truly know.
Dreadfully weeping, sinking deeply, denying what longs to show.
I watch myself, from outside myself, peering through entwined fingers.
I catch me, held back in my latticework,
ever unsure.
I’m aware of a full picture.
I have an outstretching sense of every detail.
However, unclear.
However, sustainably unclear it will be. ...

Curious Coffee Shop (2007 Rework)
A woman of thirty-three;
Twirling a curled lock of dirty-blonde while diligently sipping peppermint tea.
Traced a hundred times in my head..
Remembered every graceful curve
The inflection of small utterances said.
Longed with my eyes to be...
Just as she.
To sit with eyes transfixed on never-less and nothing more..
Than particles of nonsense in the air and philosophical banter encircling there.
This simply to accompany a determined, yet gentle stirring of that brew.
With each simple, slight clang of cup and spoon…
I find myself daydreaming away my...

Wide-eyes and Worried (2007 Rework)
A spell cast from the spindling-fingers of gypsies.
We twirl; wide-eyed and smiling.
Laugh- with barely escaping breath
Fields of decay
Fall to our knees
Anticipating.
Desires of forgiveness
Thinner air here.
Saline stars drift.
Desolate void of night.
The taste of decomposition claws the inside out.
You twirl;
Wide-eyed and worried.
Seas of still-birth.
We fall,
Pleading with cracks in concrete.
We twirl; wide-eyed and smiling.

Fall to our knees
Anticipating.

Iron-Soled (2007 Rework)
A great defeat amongst many,
The battle wages onward to a front of victory.
Standing; shake-fisted amidst broken asphalt,
We are an army of dysfunction straddling lines of mediocrity and chaos.
One in the same.
Hold heads high as they fall to imminent endings.
One step away from lacking clarity,
Yet one back from disemboweling sanity.
Slithering under feet abound,
Are those who have fallen before and against us.
We, the alliance of undermining, stand together alone.
Once more, we embark on rebellion with sharp edges to pierce traitors beneath us....

Speak Love
Love is this breath on the back of your neck
when you close your eyes and just be.
And you must speak love
As when you speak anything else you speak of the death of all great things.
Because love isn't always and forever
It is now and to be remembered.
It is hearts in hand
It is forgetting your plan
It is falling into flight
It is
The bravest embarking.
And we may shout love in the face of strangers,
Yet it is quieter than the blaring reverb echoing in our heads.
And we may be bitter and broken for having spoken it at all,
Yet there is...
when you close your eyes and just be.

In Battles
I have
Battled myself
For years since birth.
I have
Waged wars
Against every country in my head.
I have
Seen the rise
And fall of many a great mind
That all belonged to me.
I have drawn maps, blueprints, and conjured up strategies
I have nodded in affirmation
At the same time I’ve called the other islands in my head crazy.
I am an army of me
And I can’t say that we all agree
And I can’t say that you only get what you see
Because I have killed off, mended, and created
All of the pieces of who I have been, am, and...

Whirring Worlds
Wisps of your hair
Dancing in the wind
You’re gazing
Further than the distance in front of you.
Lips parted
Exhaling icy breath
You’re numbing
Too far away to notice the chill.
Fingers clenched
Tensing many tendons
You’re fighting
All of the demons who’ve dared.
Stillness.
To deny the whirring worlds inside of one another
Deem ourselves as too taboo to touch
In any place other than outside of ourselves
Slam your heart into my hand
Scream, starry-eyes streaming, that everything is as real as you feel it to be....

Snap
Thumb and third finger
Snap, crackle, pop.
To be the wind of whimsy
To hear the beat in the breeze
To be a bird of prey
To feast upon vulnerability
To lick dew drops from leaves
To taste the dawn
To shuffle through green, green grass
To feel earth growing slower than snail’s pace.
Thumb and third finger
That baseline drop
To be the Technicolor sky
To cascade on pulsating sound
To be the hands on her hips
To trace as she sultry-spins round
To lick sweat from your lips
To taste the night
To two-step to whose step but hers...
