POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
A boy and a girl in a garden
In-between places are where little birds hide.
Green passageways between suburban houses.
Scraps of land found only by searching minds.
Forgotten weedlands where light is yellow-golden.
There was a day when we were a boy and girl in a garden.
You created an in-between land to live in safely forever.
I pushed a wheelbarrow and awkwardly admired chickens and bees.
Sifted compost, listened to you half-heartedly explain things.
Tried to be of interest to you. Not easy for a neglected child with gaping holes where experiences should be.

Secret rite. Token of my love.
Needing it to be your hand

Cars paraded down the hill.
Skateboarders momently there.
Someone deep in the garden
watching that buoyant world
which guided me faraway.
Still here's the yellow ribbon
tied to my backpack, having
passed by many strong oak trees
standing true on their native
land. Their leaves shower down
in a display lost on my...
