Open Invitation
I didn’t invite you in
I just believed I had
I was wrong
You attracted me in
You did all the work
You conspired and deceived
You offered false solace
Like a nondescript magnet
Of blackened distraction
To a nondescript person
Looking for a light
Any light
If I had looked hard enough
I would have realised
You offered no credible answers
Simply posed more lingering doubts
You offered a place, a role
But they did not exist
You offered a temporary sanctuary
One that I already possess
Sometimes
You offered...

What If?
You say you're as sane as the next man
but do you know anything
about him?
or he, you?
What if he is a homicidal maniac?
Or schizophrenic?
Where does that leave you standing?
In your shoes, or in his?
Does he even wear shoes?
Did you bother to look?
What if he has no shoes?
Or feet?
Do you still feel sane?
Can you justify sanity?
Your own sanity?
Can you justify my sanity?
Where is the yardstick you measure your sanity by?
Or mine?
What if the knife in his hand is there to gouge
your bleeding heart out?
Not to...
but do you know anything
about him?
or he, you?

Where does that leave you standing?

Waiting In The Wings
To mingle unseen, among a gathering of peers
as a diamond, submerged in champagne,
secluded in the hectic animation of effervescence,
so priceless........ that feeling.
Obscurity is no relief,
more a challenge
to test my patience
within the volatile restraints of uncertainty.
Is it not the nature of man to seduce,
or to be seduced by power and greed,
those shackles of insecurity
that grip so tightly.
I have that power, but it hides within fear,
I fear the blatant savagery, unleashed
as the faceted jewel cuts
through hardened glass,...
