Open Invitation

I didn’t invite you in
I just believed I had
I was wrong
You attracted me in
You did all the work
You conspired and deceived
You offered false solace
Like a nondescript magnet
Of blackened distraction
To a nondescript person
Looking for a light
Any light
If I had looked hard enough
I would have realised
You offered no credible answers
Simply posed more lingering doubts
You offered a place, a role
But they did not exist
You offered a temporary sanctuary
One that I already possess
Sometimes
You offered everything
I thought I never had
In reality you had nothing to offer
You remained stable in your pursuit
Whilst I believed all you seemed to offer me
Yet you offered nothing
Nothing but darkness
Nothing but another stray black dog
I never invited you in again today
Or so I thought
