Ok so I got into poetry a few years ago during a depression. I have gotten a lot of inspiration from one of my favorite bands, Rise Against. I am open to criticism, and would love advice on how to make my poems better.

This pen and this paper
And my mind alone
Wrote so many anthems
And to you they were shown
But you threw them away
And let my heart slowly fall
All while you said
You'd love me through all

Made the Effort
I tried my hardest
I did my best
But in the end
I've failed this test
For the end has come
And the giver has gone
She left me lonely
And weak like a fawn
I did all I could
Gave her all that I had
Wrote poems upon end
To calm her from mad
Or to enchant her dearly
And maybe make her cry
I thought I was him
Her one dream guy
But in the end I just wasn't
I couldn't be there
And being alone
She just couldn't bear
So left me alone
In this cell of my mind
She has moved on
And left me behind
...
I did my best
But in the end

The Perfect Orphan (Alt. Ending)
The orphan child
Not always so
But came apart
As he must grow
His two protectors
They grew apart
Leaving him
With a cold heart
The harshest eye
To look upon
The world that now
All color gone
And now to see
As truly is
This realm of life
That control is his
He sits and watches
As others still live
And when he's asked
Advices he gives
But it doesn't matter
What-to him-they say
For nothing can block
That saddest day
There was but one

Broken Heart
A heart that gives to breaking point
Is the one that does break hard
For after breaking the heart is now
Into one million shards
It hurts the most to love one so
And to not be loved in turn
But how else is one to now go
Except to live and learn

All Hearts Go Out
All hearts go out
As those do feel
Pain inside
And now must heal
From the disaster that
Recently struck
It seems that they
Are down on luck
But they hold strong
And get straight to work
For they do know
They must not lurk
They understand
What must be done
And once finished
Then they can have fun
Its hard to see
And understand
What has happened
From he hand
Of Mother Nature
And one great force
And after mourning
Many are hoarse
So as a nation
We will stay strong

My Drug
Alone in a world
That understand
Separate from
Every other man
No one to talk to
But crying it can make
Me fall to my knees
When days dosage I take
Flooding my senses
Take me away
I could spend time here
Never ending day
Making me happy
Cry tears if joy
I never understood
This language as boy
Only some speak it
Seems fewer read
All are able to hear it
If tried to perceive
But some do not feel it
As strong as do I
And for those lonely souls
I do weep and cry

The loss is heavy

The Fight
The day is breaking
The battle begins
Tween what seems like
Two closest of friends
Set buildings a fire
And color does roar
Life springs up everywhere
And one can see more
The friends they are clashing
In battle heat
Beating the best friend
Is no easy feat
But the one who has started it
Pushes other to be
The champion of this tiny skirmish
As the other doth flee
But the other comes back later
With strength regained
And fights back upon friend
As if fighting a thane
And the cycle continues
Day in and...

Call to Action (Rise Up in Arms)
Now the world has decided
That it's up to me
One choice one decision
To see what I'll be
But not my choice alone no
Everybody puts in
All for the hopes that
They'll call me their kin
To influence and push me
In directions they want
And reasons I should go there

A face of stone
All blank and cold
All that it wants
