POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Absence
It was in your care
And that gentle hope
Conceived by a naive and romantic mind
Was destroyed by you
For love cannot be in competition
With anxiousness
Nor with the fear
Of being unequal
Hope tries to endure
Yet cannot
As fear will continually
Mock and deprive it
Hope, my hope...

December.
Unharmonious music clanged
Out of my piano, I lost myself in it
I raged in it, then wept in it
Though no tears were outside
my eyes
I am so alive, so free
Yet this still follows me:
Had she lived,
I would not
I took my sister's place in the world
And the world forgot

What smells like home
Essence of Nanny's home
The scent of vanilla, fluffy blankets and pillows
Books and fields of grass
Things from years ago
But my memories still last
And where I grew up
Even more books
Cats, dogs
An excellent meal
The scent of the rain
Through leaks in our roof

Just go
When she was 4, 5, 8
There were certain words
That she learned to hate
When she was four she wanted to play
When she was five she just wanted their time of day
When she was eight,
She knew they just wished she'd stay away
"Our friends are over, not yours
Go away"
8 though 13 she had no friends.
Her brothers and sisters still didn't know

Send me a little bit of starlight.
Send me some starlight
If you at all miss me
I don't care for pearls of advice
Or your false sympathy
You just left me too soon
Have you gone off to sea?
Just throw to me
A little bit of starlight
To send love to me
Should you in
A cruel darkness slumber
With your dreams plagued
By sea ghouls and sirens
Or some obscure shade
I'll send you...

The ocean and a prince.
Oceanic scenery
Was my fondest dream
With "mystery prince" beside me
Whilst I gaze into the sea
It's almost a timeless place
With both the moon, sunset and stars
And I wish oh so quietly
That I could see his face
When I awake
I know who I wish he was
But he's not even my best friend
And we're no where near the sea
If surreal dream and unreal schemes

A letter to my doubt.
My dear silent thoughts
All condemning me once more
I am aware
That I have not been what I ought
If there's a mistake to be made
I make it
More often than not
But cease your insolence
And scrutiny of me
I'm getting better
Like I have before
Why do you think it right
To make me less than free?
You, regarding me
Are always less than fair ...

In my flawed self.
He couldn't possibly see
The emotions and truest thoughts
Beyond all else
This obtuse human boy could never see
The beauty in my flawed self
I go back and forth with him
We toss jokes and pale half-made dreams
Though with no one but him I've ever felt
I know that this dream isn't mine to keep
For who but only God above
Could...

Four of my faults
Since before I was eight
I developed a habit of staying up
And reading books into the night
I still stay up too late
I'd rather climb a
Large, tall cathedral steeple
Than, smile chat and laugh
When meeting brand new people
My tone is rarely what
Nice people think that it should be
I'm so sorry
I didn't think I was being mean
But I'd like some more efficiency!

The Wise, the Foolish, and the Ordinary.
The wise will analyse, smartly criticize
Avoids telling lies
But wants inconvenient emotions to die
The foolish doesn't try
She'll go off and cry
Whines and is wasting time
Letting chances go on by
The ordinary
Smiles at him and says
"Have a nice day"
She walks on past
Does not look back

Her dream.
He was her dream
In every last way
For he took the curse
Out of her days
In her heart she fell
Backwards and down
And then found despair
She made no more sound
The songs of all lovers
Plaguing her ear
She hurt and she cried
And it became clear
That no love was hers
For he had not known
Her hope for love
Was in him
And yet stayed unknown
Maybe it was better
Cursed as she was before
Because now she doesn't try
And feels love no more
In every last way
For he took the curse
Out of her days
In her heart she fell
Backwards and down
And then found despair

In honor of these things.
In honor of every rose
The dark, the sweet, and fair
In honor of all hidden diamonds
B'neath heaven's crystal stairs
In honor of all tears
Wasted on the fiends
Who stole and broke
The gentler hearts
With cursing and cruel schemes
In honor of my heart
Which feels so very dead
