Nomad, Meet Couch Potato
Your vice is parallel
To my entire way of living
You’re a couch potato
And I’m a nomad
I’d strap the couch to my back
If you’d let me
Take you for a ride
What’s your poison?
Breathe in the smoke
Exhale the pain
Hell, I was doin’ alright
I guess I still am
It’s hard to go about these things
But that’s just because
You’re still here
And I’m not
To my entire way of living
You’re a couch potato
And I’m a nomad
I’d strap the couch to my back
If you’d let me
Take you for a ride
What’s your poison?
Breathe in the smoke
Exhale the pain
Hell, I was doin’ alright
I guess I still am
It’s hard to go about these things
But that’s just because
You’re still here
And I’m not

Distance
Excuse me,
Are you the Mechanic?
Yessir,
What seems to be the problem?
My car only drives in one direction: away
How’d you get here?
I walked.
Are you the Mechanic?
Yessir,
What seems to be the problem?
My car only drives in one direction: away
How’d you get here?
I walked.

Washing Machines
I saw you, in secret
In my head we are in glad rags
And holding hands
The green on the knees of your skinny jeans
Faded in the washing machine
Like you from my memory
I cut down our oak tree by the bayou
It was too big to fit in the trunk of my car
So I fed it to the river
I’m stuck in that afternoon
When I yelled out goodbye
But you were too far to hear me
I’m still the same, but different
I burn my stained clothes now
Because I am terrified of washing machines
In my head we are in glad rags
And holding hands
The green on the knees of your skinny jeans
Faded in the washing machine
Like you from my memory
I cut down our oak tree by the bayou
It was too big to fit in the trunk of my car
So I fed it to the river
I’m stuck in that afternoon
When I yelled out goodbye

I'm Over, You?
You told me to not be embarrassed
But sometimes I can’t help it
Surely, not this time
I use only the bad from the past to compare
I thought that I was better
Than him
This really isn’t as serious as you think
I’ve never been that honest
Its just not in my character
You’re really not as strong as you think
Your eyes gave you away
And your mouth too
I just answered my own question
But I’ll let you think that you did
I can carry that onus
You should really stop calling
I know that you know that you were...

Hotel Rooms
I'm flying on a Blue Dream tonight
Too many hotel rooms in such a short time
I can't tell if it's the weed or the nefarious fumes
From this rotten city that dispels the gloom
A phone call agitates my serenity
My lover on the other end breathing heavily
Says she wants to just be friends with me
I end the call with brevity, I helplessly
Collapse back into my thoughts with pity
Incidentally, I'm obliged to get a bit more high
Pick up the phone again and call a lady of the night
She isn't hard to find in this city
Leaves, clean up,...

Her Sweet Melody
If there was anything I wish I did believe
I'd have to say it'd be destiny
Love is blinded by hate and my heart cannot see
I may never believe
I don't like to look back but I'd love to recall
That all that time runnin' was spent well after all
Gambling more than money, oh I did fall
I thought I'd lost it all
I heard an angel while walking down the devil's crowded streets
Over the chatter, her sweet melody
What is this thing that I'm feelin', oh god, can it be
That she made me believe
But I'm leavin' for California on Thanksgiving...
I'd have to say it'd be destiny
Love is blinded by hate and my heart cannot see
I may never believe
I don't like to look back but I'd love to recall
That all that time runnin' was spent well after all

Every Time After
Sometimes I'm forced to go back
Stuck chasing ghosts and reminiscing
You took your time and I need it back
We're all grown up now, the world isn't as forgiving
If I remember correctly, it hurt
The first time I saw you and every time after
Though our walls were made from paper and our coffee from dirt
We built a home nonetheless and filled it with laughter
I used to know a man who loved a girl
He changed every day, like each tide is new
I once saw him in mirrors, you were once my world
And I wish that my mouth still tasted of you
Stuck chasing ghosts and reminiscing
You took your time and I need it back
We're all grown up now, the world isn't as forgiving
If I remember correctly, it hurt
The first time I saw you and every time after
Though our walls were made from paper and our coffee from dirt
We built a home nonetheless and filled it with laughter

Paris Lights
Buttons undone
Have I impressed anyone
Almost pushed to the brink
I suppose I'll sit here and think
Laced, curled and taught
Unlike your coda, you don't fade you rot
Paris lights are dreams
When we're all stuck here in thought
Can't wrap my mind around these things
That shed light on apologies
'round here we sip from glass
And run our hands through the trees
Waist deep in fear
Sunrise is nowhere near
Breathing in the cold
Meanwhile I wish you were here
I might have come off better
If I'd sent one less love...
