Love of My Life
As the days get closer to THE day I am grateful to have met you in this generation, post 1967. For we are different shades from different countries.
At 17 I never thought I'd meet you, the Love of my life. At 17 I didn't think I was capable of falling in love. You had this mysterious gravity and I couldn't help but be drawn in. Can I trust you?

Oh, entitled patron!
Your choice to shop here helps pay my wages.
Exposing myself to your snide comments and degradations .
Did you leave your respect for others in your car?
And let your entitlement and fury tag along?
Let it rage on in all its glory!
Because God forbid this establishment doesn't have what you're searching for.
So now you're slightly inconvenienced and the customer is always right.

Are we really safe in a place where people can't breathe, can't sleep, can't go walking down the street, without police brutality? Possibly not returning safely to their families? Just because the color of your skin. Living in a broken world where you can never win.

If I shall die in a forest
Lay me down in the leaves.
Let my body become
One with the trees.
If I shall fall in love in the winter.
Let it blossom even more in the spring.
But let it grow slowly
Like the rings of the trees.
If I shall give you my heart,
My body, my soul

White washed history books.
Down playing all the lives we took.
Blanketing a reality not taught as thoroughly as it Should be.

Speak softly, speak slowly my dear.
For the night is ours to keep
While all the others sleep.
I hold on to each word you say
