POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
The writer smiles, ash on their fingers: “Chaos, I borrowed your teeth to bite eternity. Now eat.”
Parked at Argentine
From twilight to dawn
A train moves slowly
through the yard -
no bells, no whistles.
Just the lowing steel wheels
rolling over resounding tracks,
like the long soft thunder
in a deepened aloneness.

Just the lowing steel wheels
rolling over resounding tracks,
like the long soft thunder
in a deepened aloneness.

Tail
A joyous dog barks
Writhing poetry in heart;
The tail is wagging.

The tail is wagging.

Do you...
Do you remember,
when you remembered
all the words.
But you had to go on living.
when you remembered
all the words.
But you had to go on living.

In Pistachio's Garden
The lotus were the storytellers.
Each night, the garden patch would gather
the aromas from the water
where he had thrown the faded flowers,
and they would listen to the lotus
tell their stories of growth, new beginnings, and wonder.

Through the Atmosphere
I stepped on a spider when I was little,
only to see a thousand more racing out
from beneath my shoe in every direction.
They've been on my mind forever.
I imagine if we could take our brains apart
about a million Vuvuzelas
would escape in every direction,
sounding like dying monkeys
pounding on keyboards
trying to figure out what a vuvuzela was.
only to see a thousand more racing out
from beneath my shoe in every direction.
They've been on my mind forever.

about a million Vuvuzelas

sounding like dying monkeys
pounding on keyboards
trying to figure out what a vuvuzela was.

Inverse Squares & the Measure of Constants
I was studying my neighbor’s
algorithms,
and the book I'm reading mentions
their weighted voting.
And so, I was wondering,
what do they mean?
I, for the longest time, staring straight up,
incapable of offering any reply.

2 in the morning
Down the road I heard it;
One
Two
Three
Four
shots fired on the east side.
They go ignored
until a man shows up
at the emergency room
with his 16-year-old son,
shot to death as a passenger
by stray bullets;
they were going to get ice cream at McDonald's.

We Know Nothing (but we think about it)
I like people
that say,
hey, if things
go bad,
let's run this way.

February’s Dream
I can smell
the old fashion lilac,
and the
fresh grass nearby.

Steadfast friend
Sweetheart, oh Sweetheart,
of silver sheen,
we've sailed the city
and chased a dream.
Five years together
in miles untold,
your purr,
a tale of two manifold.
Streetlights dance
on your darling chrome dress,
each avenue a kiss
sweet boulevards caress.
We've chased the sunrise,
we've felt the rain,
seen lovers laugh,
felt abandoned in pain.
Your leather whispers
parked secrets kept,
our laughter shared,
driven tears unwept.
From neon nights
to morning's...
of silver sheen,
we've sailed the city
and chased a dream.
Five years together

In quiet circumambience
After work, I sit at home
and decompress,
influenced by the ambiance.
I take my hair down, in the stillness
I draw from my cigarette,
a smoke ring floats above me, in quiet dance.

WORLDWIDE
like a bad village cabaret;
There was music, an irrefutable magic
that sounded so familiar.
In the distance, there were mountains.
Mountains like I’d never seen before.
They looked unnatural like the Pyramids of Giza
coming up like triangles through the world,
but they were the brightest emerald green.
My mind then became aware of my fingers
around the strings, as I felt the body
of the guitar held against me.
I was waking. It was then I started to realize
it was me playing the music.
