The Rave Girl
I’ve always been in love with energy,
which is why the rave scene felt like home to me.
Dancing to my own delight,
heightened awareness in the pulsing night.
Sweaty bodies moving, a vibrant sea,
lost in a kaleidoscope of light and ecstasy.
I’d perch on a speaker, my frequency alive,
vibrations rippling, helping others thrive.
It was always the odd, the eccentric, the free,
who gravitated toward my energy.
We’d talk for hours or dance without end,
no numbers exchanged, no ties to defend.
For that night, we were free—...

The Boys First Heartbreak
I ask him, "Was she worth it?"
He exhales, slow and deliberate.
"She was the tweak to my addict,
the dead eyes you see in the lost.
She was dark, parasitic to my heart.
She wanted to crawl inside my skin
just to feel my warmth.
She was fucking everything."
"She sounds terrible," I respond.

The Oil Field Man
I linger in sadness because it sharpens the moments that make me laugh,
like the blade’s edge reveals the beauty of the cut.
"Why is it," he asked, voice thick with whiskey,
"every time I sleep with a woman, I can't fill this void?"
His words hung heavy,
and I, tired of his endless lament,
took everything he ever told me—
his fears, his wounds, his pathetic confessions—
rolled them into something jagged and sharp,
a meatloaf of truth he wasn’t ready to swallow.
And I shoved it down his throat.

Mexican Princess
The beauty with a rose tattoo on her neck. I once told her I'd write her a poem and called her my Mexican Princess. She was beautiful, my millennial chola, and I knew exactly why I was drawn to her.
I've loved a woman before and learned how wild that love can be. My Geji never fought—she left that to me. But this one? She'd probably beat my ass if I missed her call. A fighter, just like me. I know exactly how it would end—moving trucks constantly in our driveway, her beauty clashing with the heart I would inevitably break.
Still, I can't stop looking at her with desire....

a ghost caught in the hum of static?

just so I could drink tea with them,
to make sense of the echoes they leave behind.
You fear the dark, but I find solace
where shadows weave their quiet embrace.
It was a Friday night—
a moment of resolve,
when I vowed to no longer dance ...

I did it again, a defense I know too well,
The only way to make them run, to break the spell.
I show them the real definition of psychotic,
A heart wrapped in chaos, a love so toxic.
I pull him close, kiss him 'til he becomes unconscious,
A razzle-dazzle performance, his mind enslaved.
He’s intoxicated by my very air,
But just when he thinks love could be there,
I rip the rug out from under him and tell him to pack his shit and go.
Once, a man called me out, saw through my game,
I've never met someone who played crazy so well. ...
