POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
A young person who sometimes has lots of ideas.
Chocolate
Crying robin up at dawn
heals the daybreak with a song,
sees a worm and takes a bite
world erupts in sweet delight.

sees a worm and takes a bite

Hibernate
Frugal squirrels and chubby bears
sleep-out cold inside warm lairs.
Hungry wolves and fragile mice
scavenge snowbanks, gnaw on ice.

Bad Poem
It was a dark and stormy night on the
precipice of fall. Green leaves met
brown as the sky cried white lighting
and hard rain, finishing half-dead
trees early.

Tired
I’ll wash my brain and dirt my feet,
I’ll dance in mud and skirt packed streets,
I’ll live and die before my hair turns gray.
I said before I settled down,
pretended love and hid my frown,
and wrinkled up to die of cold old age.
I’ll dance in mud and skirt packed streets,
I’ll live and die before my hair turns gray.
I said before I settled down,
pretended love and hid my frown,
and wrinkled up to die of cold old age.

Garage Sale Painting
On a whim, I picked it up
and admired the time earned
imperfections of a rough canvas
on sale for twenty dollars.

Residuals
Night was a flame
now morning’s an ash,
regret blacks my fingers
and darkens my laugh.

Writer's Block
I tried to walk around the
block, wound up rotting
in my chair.
I tried to dig below the
block, got trapped beneath
without a prayer.
I tried to climb above the
block, where air’s too
thin to breathe.
I shut my eyes and
fell asleep, woke up
later writing dreams.

Work
Recess has ended
and naptime is done,
no time to enjoy broken
backs and bad puns.

Vacancy
In the end, I awake alone.
The emptiness of my king-sized bed
magnified by the unbridled moans
crashing out of the apartment next door.

Country Song
The frost on the wind
met the chill up my spine,
in a cold country inn
with five bottles of wine.

A Sullen Silent Night
No mans mind is safe
nor can women’s hearts escape
the sullen silence of a lonely night.
A shrivelled shell of yesteryear
a drunken ghost, an empty beer;
her haunting face that reappears
after the brutal violence of a punchless fight.
A lovers choice brought naught but doom,
your mother’s voice inside the gloom;
my stoned rejoice, the flowers bloom
like a summer joy that found its tomb
in the sullen silence of a lonely night.
Blood flows after battle cries
like pain grows after love has died;
I wallow in her smiling eyes,...
nor can women’s hearts escape
the sullen silence of a lonely night.

Alright
Gangrene enthusiasm, parasitic smile,
although I seem chipper
I’m wrack with denial.
