POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
LadyLoss is who I am when I don't want to be me anymore.
Waiting on Her Again
Th nutter who's just walked past me,
Has told me he knows what I'm doing.
I find that hard to believe.
How can he possibly know that I'm waiting for a woman,
I seem to spend my life waiting for.
It's November. It's freezing, it's raining,
And I'll stand here and wait.
To prove a point.
That I would stand for hours in the pouring rain,
Just to see her face.
So she can mock me, and say hurtful things
Behind a guise of jesting.
Things that she can't possibly mean,
I hope not, at least.
The nutter has ambled away now. ...

A ghost
When we eat together,
She sits between us.
A ghost of betrayal.
You look longingly at her,
As I stab viciously at whatever you've put on the plate.
When we watch TV,
I lay behind you,
Cuddle up to you, breathe you in,
She sits, glaring at me.
A ghost of being second best.
When we lay in bed, roll over,
Back to back,
It's her laying between us,
Making that unabridged gap.
A ghost that still lives.
When I tell you I love you,
She silently sneers,
Intently watches you for your reaction,
Is that...
She sits between us.
A ghost of betrayal.
You look longingly at her,
As I stab viciously at whatever you've put on the plate.

I've Been Here Before.
I did it again,
I realised.
There she was,
Holding court,
Mature, sophisticated,
Guiding us,
And my mouth hung open,
Jaw on the floor,
I'm looking at her,
Her blue eyes,
I've seen them somewhere before.
She commanded the room,
Owned it in her stance,
She tested us all,
Quizzed us,
In that unbelieving tone,
That I've heard somewhere before.
I sit,
I stare, hypnotised,
By her words,
Her meanings,
Her explanations,
Her capitulations,
In mannerisms,
That I know from...

I Can't Stand Tea
We sit at the table,
Drinking tea,
I can't stand tea.
She should know that by now.
It's too sweet.
We sit together,
But apart,
Bodies saying it all.
She's leant back, away from me,
Only looking me in the eye fleetingly.
And I keep thinking,
I really don't like tea.
I lean in,
Gaze at her, watch her lips twitch,
For a small joke, nothing more.
For my teasing,
That she still doesn't know,
I despise tea.
The more I concentrate on the damn cup,
The more I see the similarities.

My best friend and my closest friend.
She giggles over her bucket of wine,
'secretly you love me. Secretly you adore me'
It's not much of a secret, she knows.
She knows I'd run to the ends of the earth,
Take a running leap off,
Into black nothingness,
If she told me I'd find a part of her at the bottom of the jump.
She looks at me with accusing eyes,
'you don't come over anymore. I miss you'
My heart ruptures at the simplicity,
Though I know it's sheerly platonic.
She misses my dry one liners,
My 'I'm driving, can't drink. Nope.
Oh ok, then, I'll have one. Maybe...

I close the gap between her back and me,
Wrap arms around her and whisper 'boo'.
She turns herself around inside my arms,
Looks at me with eyes, light blue.
I pull her closer, squeeze her tight,
Murmur those pathetic three words,
She pulls away with a wink,
And the grin that upended my world.
I watch her walk away, with an over the shoulder kiss,
I give her a head start, before I go after her.
I stop when I hear the shower running,
Watch her outline shower.
That figure silhouetted, drives me near insane.

Nighttime stargazing
Standing at my window,
Cigarette in one hand,
The orange glow the only light in my room.
Cloudless skies, a million stars.
A few of the gods' fagends up there too.
A plume of smoke hangs in the air,
I watch it curl away.
In that place again, where it's all doom and gloom.
Nothing seems to fit.
I know that somewhere, something has to be true.
His boxers, his t shirt,
I feel comfortable this way.
Stargazing without my stargazer beside me.
It's not right.
But maybe it'll become this way permanently.

Nightmare
He chuckles as he pinches, bites,
Makes me writhe in my sleep.
He chuckles as he hurts me,
Throws me back into nightmares, too real.
He's only being affectionate,
But in my dreams, I see the devil.
His smile twisting into a leer,
My subconscious hates him,
While in the waking world, he's my angel.
I dream of someone I used to know,
Breaking me for sport,
A twisted face I used to know,
Becoming his face as I hurt.
I run between the dead trees,
Trying to get the hell away,
Somehow, every time I turn a corner,
He's...

Same Shit
Sat at the bar I work at,
Just to catch up with some mates,
They told me what he'd been up to,
How he should be someone I hate.
Apparently he was going from woman to woman,
Trying to get his end away.
Each time he failed, he moved on,
But still went home alone at the end of the day.
Apparently he was really shitty with my dad,
Apparently he swung for him and missed.
Apparently he was being an obnoxious bastard.
Of course he was, he always is when he's pissed.
My 'mates' and my dad tell me all of this,

What is it about the unreachable,
That makes us stretch even further?
The priceless and invaluable thing,
That makes the billionaire flash his gold card?
Why is it that the unbeatable,
Makes us last an extra five rounds?
And the only thing we really can't have,
Is what we really want?
That makes us stretch even further?
The priceless and invaluable thing,

Dreams
I had a dream she asked me to write,
Write all the words down for her,
She told me she loved it,
Despite what she'd said,
And she'd give me my happy ever after.
I dreamt that she would sit beside me,
Hold my hand as she read,
Her thumb strokes my hand,
Her eyes skim the page,
And it still wasn't good enough, she said.
So I made into a scavenger hunt,
Hid messages in odd places,
The first verse in the coffee pot,
The second under her pillow,
The third in her shoes, under her laces.
I watched as she went...
Write all the words down for her,
She told me she loved it,
Despite what she'd said,
And she'd give me my happy ever after.

Subliminal daggers.
Conversation used to come so easy,
If it didn't, we'd talk with no words,
It used to be so simple,
Now the silence hurts.
It used to be every day,
Now, just when needs be,
It used to be a piece of cake,
Now I can't tell her she means so much to me.
It used to be all fun and games,
Stupid talks about sod all,
Now it's all about the serious,
We hit the big brick wall.
We used to text just because we could,
Not because we had to.
And then that bloody stupid fight,
Because my own pain I couldn't see through. ...
