POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I have been writing poetry for about 15 years. Most of my poems express my inner feelings and emotions, and are an intimate baring of my soul, although I write some of a more humourous nature.
Can she forgive him
Bound to the cruel wheel of fate, I weep bitter tears once more,
As if there existed for me some deep inexorable law,
A decree that condemned me to drive away those I adore.
O fairest lily, in your sweet kindness you gave me your trust
To hold and to cherish, but yet once more, as it seems I must
I threw it away, trampling your beauty down into the dust.
I allowed suspicion and envy to overrule common sense
And wrote you a letter, guaranteed to cause you such offence,
That in your turn you must banish me, my error so immense
That there could be no hope of...

Bitter truth
Into the dark I pour out my heart
As eternal night once again falls
Upon my wretched soul, clothing me
In a thick blanket of bleak despair,
Its relentless and merciless grip
Driving out all hope and happiness.
Once more I am alone, sorrowful
And far away from the one I love,
The promise of a future together
No more than a hollow mockery,
A cruel jest by malignant fate,
Leaving me to weep pathetic tears.
We said we wanted to share our lives,
That apart we could not be happy
Filling a void in our emptiness, ...
As eternal night once again falls
Upon my wretched soul, clothing me
In a thick blanket of bleak despair,
Its relentless and merciless grip
Driving out all hope and happiness.

And far away from the one I love,

Our pledge of love
Why should it be that doubts should so assail me,
This day should be one of bright joy and delight,
But a harsh and barren world is all I see,
And my life is drained of all colour and light.
Around me all is cold and grey like the sky,
Its pale hues seeping like rain into my heart.
Sometimes I think it might be better to die,
As a silent scream of pain tears me apart.
Oh my darling, I have given you my name,
Promising to bring you naught but happiness,
Yet time and again, to my eternal shame
My unkind words bring you nothing but...

Love so fleeting and so rare
Ah me, that love so fleeting and so rare
Should touch me for a moment, and then fly,
Never to return. Love divinely fair,
So tender and so sweet, I can just sigh
That you were briefly mine, but now despair,
As alone once more, in dull grief I lie.
The truth I ponder, so in sadness now to yield,
And think no more our hearts were destined to defer
The march of time; the hard and brutal truth revealed
Not truly soul mates, merely friends is what we were,
And foolish my belief that ever I appealed
To something deep in you. For now you will...

The dance
My heart’s own true love, come let us dance;
All around shimmers silver in moonlight,
And the night air is heady with fragrance,
Calling us to share our dreams of delight.
So take my hand in yours, and follow me,
To that secret arbour, our trysting place,
Where anointed in light, unseen and free,
Intricate patterns our spirits will trace.
Our limbs will entwine in artless desire,
Separate souls recombining in one,
Minted anew by the heat of love’s fire,
In a new life that can ne'er be undone,
We will seal our union with a kiss,

Dancing in the moonlight
My dearest love, the time to dance has come,
The moonlight beckons, the air inviting.
So hold my hand, and let me lead you down,
To that most sacred grove, our secret place,
Where seen by none, save the dark eyes of night,
Our feet weave intricate shapes on the ground,
Limbs entwining in sinuous desire.
Then at last, soft flesh melting into flesh,
Our united souls begin to vibrate
To a more passionate and urgent rhythm,
And mounting up on radiant wings of love,
We rise in ecstasy until we drift,

Surrender
Little did we guess at our first meeting
That from the beginning we were destined
By generous fate to become lovers.
Vainly we thought that we could be just friends,
Embraces merely marks of affection,
Kisses no more than a simple greeting.
Hopeless in the face of overwhelming truth,
Every day brought us closer to the point
That we were forced to surrender to love,
Inspiring in each other such passion,
Heights of ecstasy never known before,
Each moment bringing new revelations
Of wondrous joy, stages on our journey,
Speeding us...

My love beyond compare
To sing her praise, all other loves I'd shun;
And when at last we're wed, upon her head;
Sweet kisses I will shower, one by one;
Then stroke her hair, so lustrous, and so red.
And in her lovely ears, throughout the night,
I'll whisper tender words, and when she speaks
In tones like sweetest music that delight
My smitten heart, and which her love bespeaks,
For me, so from my eyes hot tears do flow
In grateful thanks that such a love I've found;
I thank the god of love who did bestow,
On me such fortune, all my sorrows drowned.

Together
Your absence becomes a void in my aching heart,
Your presence fills my happy soul with golden light,
Your silence cuts me like a sharply piercing dart,
Your letters give to me the greatest of delight.
I love you above all else, more than words can tell,
I would give my all for you, everything you see,
I am nothing without you, just an empty shell,
I am full to overflowing when you smile on me.
Together we rise above the troubles of this life,
Together we shine brighter than the brightest flame,
Together we have found the elixir of life,
Together...

Love's revelation
The realisation has at last dawned on my dull and tardy mind
That you have given me your heart wholly without reservation
To the exclusion of all others. How could I have been so blind
That I could fail to see the profound depth of your adoration
The bounteous gift of love. Forgive me for being so unkind
To doubt the sacrifice you have made without equivocation.
These poor lines are all I have to give, but in them I hope you'll find
True recompense, and of my sincerity a confirmation,
Thus am I restored, and all doubts forever to the dust consigned. ...

It is the silence
It is the silence that is the hardest thing go bear.
I could cope with anger, harsh words, even tears.
Because then there would still be hope.
But it is the silence …
Last time we met it was just like old times.
We talked about unimportant, silly things,
The weather, what sport you liked,
Even compared our sound systems.
Nothing sexy at all ...
But when we did make love, there was such joy,
The best it had ever been, lovely beyond words.
And when we parted, it was with words of love,
Sweet endearments, and tender kisses. ...

So fragile my heart was touched
So fragile my heart was touched
You look almost transparent, brittle like old glass
Ready to break into a thousand pieces
At the least touch or word.
There was a time when I felt more than compassion
Willing to offer my strength and protection
Against the pain of living, so clear in your face,
But that was in the past, in the before time,
And the breaking in of cold reality.
The dullness in your eyes tells me
That all passion is spent now, dispersed by
The passage of days and weeks,
Lost in the mists of forgetfulness.
