POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I have been writing poetry for about 15 years. Most of my poems express my inner feelings and emotions, and are an intimate baring of my soul, although I write some of a more humourous nature.
The Predator - alternative version
With practised art and infinite patience,
Like a predator he waits out of sight,
Hiding in the shadows he stalks his prey,
Waiting silently for that sweet moment
Of triumph, when at last with lightning speed
He pounces on his unsuspecting victim
To sink his fangs into their naked soul,
Inflamed with desire to gorge on their youth,
And savour the sweetness of their innocence.
With honeyed words of sensual pleasures
Never before imagined or enjoyed,
And sweet promises of heavenly delights

Total Eclipse Of The Untrained Mind
Crushed by the burden of my expectations
My humiliation is complete,
And I am descending into a dark pit
Of self abnegation and contempt,
My self esteem shattered into crystal shards
By the brutal hammer blows of fate.
A mere scientist, I am justly punished
For my insolent temerity
In believing I could trespass in those fields
Reserved for more refined intellects
Honed in the arcane skills of philosophy,
Whose artistic sensibilities
Far eclipse my simple mechanistic mind.
Self flagellation with barbed whips
Of self loathing is not...

Forget Me Not
Almost ethereal in hue, your tiny blooms
Hide shyly in the grass like small fragments of sky,
Whispering of better places and kinder ways,
A happy land revealed only to true lovers.
Where love reigns supreme and fear and pain are unknown.
In better days we have travelled there together,
Walking hand in hand on verdant dew dropped meadows,
Leaving a trail of silver where our feet have trod,
Far removed from daily chores and sad memories,
Our hearts and minds united in transcendent love.
There we pledged our eternal love, and exchanged vows
Never more...

Closure
It's done, I've pressed the self destruct button,
Finally made the irreversible choice.
This false face I will no longer put on,
Here you will not hear my distinctive voice;
I've gone elsewhere, to ply my chosen trade,
A new and greater challenge waits me there,
And time will show me if the choice I've made
In pain and grief at losing one so fair,
Is right; or will I soon come to regret
Words said in haste, thoughtless in my anger.
Were she here, she would tell, it's safe to bet
Of her relief, safe now from the danger
Of my judgemental words,...

One brief word
All I can remember is your angry voice,
That is all I hear when I try to register you in my head,
That and nothingness.
And then I wonder, have you now made your choice
Totally to exclude me from your life, as if I were dead,
Or worse, meaningless.
Is this the meaning of your silence? But then
How could you blot me out of your mind so easily, I ask,
And get angry too.
O cruel woman, what did it mean when
You spoke to me in words of love, of your love for me, I ask
Was that really true?
I cannot call, I fear...

Christmas Eve
Though for a space we may be many leagues apart,
Worlds separated by the vastness of the sea,
Cold and heartless in its dark majestic beauty,
From that first day when you offered to me your heart,
Love's present, binding your life to mine eternally,
Graciously given, not from a sense of duty,
A pledge that from my side you would no more depart.
Not a day has passed since then that I have not known
The sweet comfort of your warm and tender embrace.
On this Christmas Eve, sitting alone in this place,
I know that we are one, together on a throne

Silver and gold
Like the rising of the lambent moon's orb
Over the rim of the restless ocean,
Clothing the waters with liquid silver,
And calming the harsh anger of the waves,
So is the love of my dear one to me,
The clear light of her bright presence soothing
My unhappy tempestuous spirit,
And turning my misery into joy.
In the turbulence of life's darkest storms,
She is like a shaft of golden sunlight,
Suddenly piercing the gathering gloom
And illuminating the clouded world,
Bringing the promise of a better life,
Filled with the hope of future paradise.

Come my love
Come dearest heart and take my hand,
So shall we skip down to the strand,
And there my darling we will sing,
Of love eternal murmuring.
As by sweet breezes gently fanned,
Our footprints printing in the sand,
Two hearts together will take wing,
United by a wedding ring.
Such lovers there have never been,
Nor such devotion ever seen,
From ocean depths unto the sky
Love so strong it will death defy.
That in the stars was long foreseen,
From when the world was young and green.
And two hearts will together fly,
Never...

One love only
One
Love who
Gives to me
Such joy and more,
The one for whom I've
Sworn to cross the dark Styx
Else grow wings, and fly to heaven,
To rest beside one, who most gentle fate
So kindly has sent, from henceforth to be mine.
My angel, in her dear arms alone can happiness again
Light my dark world. Humbly I crave some sign
That she returns my love, my own true mate
Evermore to be, with grace to leaven
My cold clay, the true prefix
That proves I am alive.
I desire no more
From my free
And true
Sun.
Love who

Come fly with me
Oh my dearest one, what means this anguish,
That clouds in pain everything you say?
A dark shadow its baleful wings has spread
Over the fair beauty of your pure soul,
Driving out all the joy and happiness
That I thought we had found, so free from care,
Playing like children at the dawn of time.
We had something so pristine, far above
That granted by fickle fate to so few,
A love so deep it would last eternally.
Try as I may, still you seem to languish,
Lost in a bleak world, far from the blessed day.
From your sweet mind all...

Hymn to an angel
At the morning of the world we were one,
Secure in our love, no dark, only light
Shining around us, lives warmed by the sun
In whose radiant beams our hearts burned bright.
Oh my sweet love,
How could we know,
That darkness soon would blight our day.
On the far horizon, so far away,
Unseen a cloud was growing, a dark stain
Which soon would grow, and turn the light of day
Into hateful night, filled with deepest pain.
And my sweet love,
Hers was no crime,
'Twas demons fell my joy did slay.
Clawing at my mind, sowing seeds of...
