POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
My name is John Wilkes Lincoln, a registered minister of the ULC. My inspiration comes from botany, love, and nature. As you read my poetry, I hope you get a deeper realization of the purpose of life and different life lessons.
Secret Santa
Ash Lee waits by the window, eager for her gift to arrive. Over the summer, she met 14 random strangers at a Latin convention and had grown to trust them over internet calls. When she is not posting on her Snapchat story, she waits patiently for the delivery man to bring that special box to her door. After crying about a movie for 3 consecutive hours, the time had arrived, and she rushed to the front door to see the Amazon package resting on the porch. Eager to open it immediately, she rushes back to her room to view the box. She goes to grab the scissors but hesitates. Should she open the...

Tomorrow's Another Day
Stella Margret Summer waits patiently at the bus stop for her ride to come. Life had been rough recently, but hope remains within the silver crucifix around her neck. Alex Feng rolls up in his Silver Chevy Silverado and rolls down his window to ask her to hop in. Their relationship had been rough recently, but Alex was unwilling to part ways. “We can still make it through this, Stella,” he said, hope draining from his face. Her dark brown eyes show that it’s over, but amber streaks of hope radiate from his dark black hair. “This is the exact reason I broke up with you in the first place,” she...

A John Wilkes Lincoln Christmas Special
Everyone gather round and begin to take a look,
About the numerous stories written in my memory book.
It was a magical evening, hosted by Grandma May,
In her house, she hosted a party on Christmas Day!
The house was packed, the people were plenty,
Obama, McCain, and my wife Jenny.
Adam, Peter, Gavin, a Jew,
Snoop, the Grinch, and Mary Lou Who.
My dad, a hooker, my date Emily,
Ava, Shannon, the rest of my family.
Some time had passed, everyone raised a glass,
Until suddenly the room began to fill...

Women
Some men have a sister. Some men have a brother.
Some men would love to marry each other.
Some men like winter. Some men like fall.
This poem isn’t about women at all.
Instead, I would like for you to wait and see,
both Obama and McCain’s plan for our energy.
Though this topic may seem like a giant bore,
you’ll find out it’s fun like McCain drilling offshore.
“By the end of my term this will be imposed,"
however Senator Obama would like it to be closed.
Not to crinkle your plan...

The Memory Book
I sat down on a chair and began to take a look,
I finally found my father’s memory book.
I found it while I was cleaning the attic,
A book of love, but also dramatic.
As I flip through the pages, my life comes to me
Like a fishing ship coming back from the sea.
I opened the book and lost my frown,
I had found the time when I first went downtown.
I grew up in the country, my childhood was calm,
I grew up with my family, a loving dad and mom.
Then I went to college, my surrounding became new ...

Dinner on Main Street
The streetlamps spread a dim light on the wide avenue, raindrops flowing down on the large metropolis. As I arrived at my parents house on this dark night, the familiar house was lost in a thick shower of rainwater. The storm descended down before my eyes, blinding myself from the usually amicable street. I finally arrived at my parents house, drenched in rain yet covered by my dark grey trench coat. The entryway was as inviting as ever, the dark oak door garnished with gold. A small glass window secured by iron bars rests near the top of the door, inviting yet seclusive.

A Night to Remember: A Prequel to Among the Fallen Angels
I left the babysitter at home with my three daughters. Rebecca, Elizabeth, and Leah were my everything, and I was nervous to leave them without their parents for the first time. My wife, Shannon, and I needed a date night desperately. After having triplets 3 years ago, all of our time and energy was spent raising our children, and we had no time to think about ourselves. We had reserved a table for two at the fanciest restaurant in town, The Algonquin, and have been waiting for weeks. Shannon and I had become more distant lately, yet I couldn’t figure out the reason. Could it be working...

Among the Fallen Angels
As she lay there, radiant in heavenly beauty, an angel on earth for me to embrace, I remembered my path to get to this moment. Love had been rough recently, and Sharron, my ex-wife, had taken the kids. I had previously tried to slit my wrists with the razors held in my closet, yet terminated the idea when I realized that life wasn’t meant for death. I decided that love would keep me grounded, and I found a young lady online who would love me back. Her name was Emily, and we met at a fancy restaurant downtown. The night was incredible, and I found the love that I lacked, yet needed...

A Moment of Discovery
As the daisies blossom,
Everything Is awesome,
As the spring air dances through the trees.
As the flowers flourish,
And the critters renourish,
And the children play in the breeze.
Where the kids sing a song,
And the days become long,
And the raindrops flutter on the streets.
Where the grass becomes bright,
Like the moon through the night,
As the cycle of life repeats.
Best friends in the field,
Both their truths concealed,
As they’re starting to try something new.
But the...

Alabama
An ethereal goddess takes a seat on this chair,
I take a look at my pants and realize there is a tear.
I cry and moan, but my heart still stayed strong,
Because I could buy another pair, not after long.
It was an incredible evening, we went out to dinner,
For the rest of my life I wish I could be with her.
We ended our meal, and went back to her house.
My fly was unzipped, and out popped the mouse.
She shrieked and screamed, then went into a jig,
She couldn’t fathom how something was so big.
We went...

A Newborn's Pilgrimage
My father was an incredible traveler. He would bring together masses to accomplish adventures beyond my comprehension. All of his companions were white in skin tone, and they all had a common purpose. They needed to reach the peak of Everest in 3 days before they ran out of materials. All of them were the same age, and it was race to see who would be the youngest to peak the tallest mountain. They penetrated through the perilous wilderness, some already being lost among the way. They came to a dilemma, two paths. One of them certainly leading to the peak, the other to an unknown land. As the...

Above the Clouds
He waits above the clouds, unbothered by the rush of society. The winds whisper sweet songs, their language unknown to all. He breathes the mountain air, life exuding from his chest. Each breath he takes he becomes closer to the nature surrounding him. He goes by many names, but responds to none. He is both everything and nothing at the same time. As he admires the otherworldly views surrounding him, he realizes the importance of solidarity. His entire morning was spent getting to this point, and yet he realizes that it was more relaxing than he first imagined. As he takes the next puff, he...
