POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I have a fondness for narrative verse --narrative poets such as Chaucer, Coleridge, Longfellow, Tennyson, Burns, Noyes, Lear, Nash, Carroll, D'Arcy, Kipling, Moore, and Service. The stories they tell are good and made better by the poetic form they use.
Coffee and pink lace
As we entered Vicky's Place,
she pinned on her badge
and said,
"You're a customer
that's how I must treat you in here.
PLEASE don't do or say anything that will cost me my job."
With a sly sort of smile,
I ask,
"If you don't model for me,
how will I know how something will look,
something I might buy for you?"
With just the right amount of sarcasm,
she told me,
"You know damn well what I look like
and can guess what the
thoroughly risqué playing around
clothes you will pick out
will look...

a homonym approach to love
(This was clearly written for the homonym competition.)
Is it aloud? Eye asked.
It aught to bee. Ewe are my bell,
my suite.
And eye, your bow.
Will I need to cokes you?
You know that you are the colonel of my desire.
And I wish to bee the night of your dreams.
Butt, bear? Deer. No close?
Eye will say eye only if ewe seed to being scene first.
Was her reply.
In turn eye said,
Eye will peal to my waste
as you weight your thyme
to bear your braw
and then the peeks your braw encloses.
They are a site I long to sea....

a one night thing
I assumed as we undressed each other,
that this was to be a one night thing, a fling.
As we first kissed,
I wondered a bit about both,
Your tentativeness,
Your quick, if unskillful, thrusting of your tongue in my mouth.
Your guttural moans,
As I nibbled and sucked first one nipple and then the other,
Caught me by surprise.
When I licked and kissed my way down your body,
I found your body's arching, wriggling, and trembling,
Refreshing and encouraging,
If somewhat startling,
So early in our love making.

'Twas under the rainbow, we first met.
I was young.
You were older.

Day.
It started out cloudy.
The weather.
Your mood.
And our relationship.
I was laughing.
You were crying.
He'd left you.

I offered my umbrella.
You were angry that I had laughed.
And walked on, as the rain started to fall.
Gently at first.
As was my apology.
I held it over your head.
You glared and said, "Why?"

Just sex
It was to be 'just sex'.
We agreed.
Nothing more.
Absolutely, nothing more.
Ever.
The plan was to fuck.
Period.
In all of its many manners.
In all of its myriad ways.
A complete scoring of the "Kama Sutra".
A total consummation of "101 Positions for Sex".
An exhaustive discharge of "365 Positions for Daily Sex".
A full-blown enactment of "Wild and Sexy".
Even a faithful fulfillment of "Position Sex Bible".
A most thorough mutual education on the wonders of sexual enjoyment.

Evening coffee
Walking in the mall,
At 6:30 in the evening,
it's dark,
and that night, it was cold
and drizzly.
Stopped for coffee at Starbucks.
In line behind a woman who seemed familiar.
When she spoke, I recognized her.
Same husky voice.
Same reddish hair.
Same scent, that filled me with desire.
As she approached the counter,
I stepped in and said.
"Put her's on my card, along with my own."
As she picked up her cup,
and turned 'round,
she recognized me.
As we walked to a table,

When we were kids.
Remember when we were just kids?
Might we return to one of those old days,
during the spring of our lives?
I know our bodies have grown, matured
it's now the winter of those same lives,
but there was a conversation I want to replay.
It was out behind the shed,
under the lilac in spring,
with the warm afternoon sun,
encouraging us to lay side-by-side.
We talked of important things;
What purple smelled like.
What color warm was.
How friendship felt.
What that thing called love was...

And more.
When I held the door for you,
And smiled,
It was reflexive,
Not indicative of interest,
nothing more.
I assumed that your smile in return,
was the same,
nothing more.
As you strolled on down the hall,
With a very nice wiggle in your walk,
And glanced over your shoulder,
I wondered if there might be more.
When next I saw you, and offered coffee,
I told myself, it was casual interest,
nothing more.
I assumed you would decline the offer,
out of indifference,
alas,
nothing more.

And that is how the fight started.
We'd just met.
Hadn't gotten to know her yet.
Chatted, smiled, winked.
Hand on her arm.
Licked her lips.
Hand on my arm.
Moved in closer.
Ready for a quick kiss.
Asked my name.
"Jay".
Said to her,
"Your name must be Ecstasy."
Laughed.
And said, "If you say so."
Hand moved to the back of her head.
A quick kiss.
A tap on my shoulder.
From behind.
Fear in her eyes.
"She's mine."
"Only I ride down that ecstasy lane."...

flirty
batted your eyes
flipped and twisted your hair
smiled
licked your lips
traced your lips with your finger
even sucked on your finger,
moving it in and out of your mouth.
with your head tipped down,
you watched me across the room
winked
wiggled your hips as you walked by
used the mirror over the bar
to see if i was watching you
unbuttoned the top button of your blouse,
made certain your cleavage showed,
almost to the nipples.

a cold day, no coffee
It was cold that morning.
17 ° F.
Dressed warmly.
Long sleeved t-shirt, sweater, bubble jacket.
Long underwear, sweat pants,
Shoes, socks.
Gloves.
Watch style cap.
Snow on the ground.
Ice on some of the sidewalks.
Walked fast, to keep warm.
Newspaper on the sidewalk.
Looked at the front door.
Storm door ajar.
Hand stuck out.
Holding steaming coffee cup.
Cold enough to relish getting warm.
And the coffee would taste good too.
No ice on the walk leading to the door.
