POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I like playing with language. I love the satisfaction of structuring a whole poem from just a single line or thought, and making lines rhyme or fit. I like poems that have a dark intensity and a flow to them, and that's what I try to create with mine.
The Call of the Void
As night descends the darkness bends around your troubled mind
Tugging at the strings of heart tied tight to hope they bind.
The cries of silence call your name, in tongues of silk veneer
Though the only words you recognise are cast from fires of fear.
You sail a distant sea of dreams, your life was lived in thoughts
You tried to paint a masterpiece, connecting all the dots.
Within the blind you wish to find a somber guarantee.
The comfort of the shackled black give heed unto your plea.
Waves of moonlight out of sight, grease the gears that grind...

Time the Healer
Life's too fast to see the past, but it calls to you at night
It drips into your darkened thoughts and drenches them in light.
The ghosts of those whose souls were sold, throughout your troubled days
Unfold beneath the sky of dreams, and set themselves ablaze.
Enchanted by their fire, in a warmth of pain and lies
The wind will never cease to cry, the sun will never rise.
The smoke of hope will fill your lungs, the poisoned air of death
Forever will forsaken love be tasted on your breath.
Life's too slow to feel the flow, but the ebb of swaying tides...

Blinded by the Truth
I lay amongst the hills of shattered dreams. As the valley cries I hear it scream between the dark unordered pillars of the mountain's stark, majestic beams. From here it seems, the sky reflects the silhouettes of cold regrets and wets them in the streams of light, which once had captured stars in flight, now flowing fast and flashing past my weary, troubled head. A body broke by feelings dead. Your ghost beside me in this bed of life that I have made. Strong as ice but still afraid, that heat of tongues will part me with an oral blade, and melt away your comfort's shade. I prayed in times of...

Gone But Not Forgotten (Ormeau Road)
On the city the shadow of history is nailed, as a warning to those whose beliefs have wailed through the ages, dividing the charters and pages of peace in the name of god. Lonesome I trod, a stranger to its streets and lands of light, drenched in the deep unflagging night, the stench of a nearby fight broke free as a bar door swung, it's hard to say who won as I shuffled by, with dreams in my hand and love in my eye, fixated on a girl I left behind. Past it's pristine parks of hope, and on towards the frayed rope roads and wispy lanes that twisted my brain as I tried to find my bearings, the...

The Light of Your Day
Out of place, and slowly dying
Like a rose upon the shoreline lying
Soaked by waves of darkness in my past
Beneath the stars of heaven's light
Your dawn of beauty out of sight
A vision of a sky so blue and vast
To once have comfort kept in thought
To once by your soft hand be caught
Life in your bright beams was all I asked
So long your sparks of sun had glowed
Our fearful hidden hearts had showed
The tide of your bright day could never last
As dusk approached my tilted head
My dreams were torn as I was led
Drenched...

Man o' War
Ships of passion sailed upon the seventh sea of hearts
Other vessels lost before the men could plot their charts
Capsized by waves of love that rose above the shanty lies
Swallowed by the swelling tide of fear within their eyes
Flags of hope were flown to lonely lovers on the beach
Hoisted full-sail, painted black, and sewn across the breach
Waving in the winds of time, they bore a signal true
Fear not these daunting waters, for we will guide you through
Cannon fodder dreams were scuttled deep into the black
Tangled in the...

A Day Unbroken
I unsealed the door of the storm-soaked night, and rolled my eyes along the light, seeping, from above the wide, unfolded, black horizon. I wrote my lies down, and headed to the old unfaithful side of town. At the other end of the wind, where god had sinned, my life the only hope I had as darkness thinned. A Bridge's struts were thrashed with tidal powers; they stood like golden gates of towers, built to bring me closer, to she who always fell so far behind. Who followed me until the dark had stabbed her eyes, and made her blind. Forever searching, for the sleeve of her heart and frame of her...

A Night by the Fire
Time draws long and folds within the darkness of it's past,
My eyes too old and dim to lay at night and watch it pass.
A withered frame, a dying flame, a beckoning of doom,
All life was now extinguished, as she strode into the room.
A gush of wind extruded from the interrupted door,
And travelled high on by the chair, where I sat forevermore.
Her shadow caught me lingering, on life I gave to thee,
And in her heart she cried as though her face was blind to see.
The cold air grazed my flacid arm and shivered down my spine,
Awakening a...

Your Deadly Tune
Your beauty is a perfect silent song
Sirens sing your notes the whole night long
That deadly tune, to which I croon
Brought me to the gallows here at dawn.
Your Mona Lisa lips are apple smooth
From that fruit my love in vain could not remove
A forbidden taste I tried, before I choked and nearly died
Now here I am with nothing left to prove.
Your voice was like an esoteric orchard
Where words were grown on trees of truth, and captured
When a sudden shift of violence, exhumed the grave of silence
And whispered in my ear as I was tortured....

A Simple Step
You who are so beautiful, in dreams you die alone.
The fight that cost a lover's heart, in life you lay unknown.
Your hero stands with wounded pride, in a war he fought from home.
Across the sea my armies hide, and cowards return to their bones.
You who are defiant, it seems will never cry.
An ocean's breadth of longing now between our hearts that lie.
A single word, a simple step, a path across the sky.
The ocean might be deep my love, but what if we could fly?
You who are my saviour, when once we come of age;
The bell will toll a bride to be,...

When Once We Shone
Born and raised in the human race,
Like suns we shone through life.
From distant worlds our hearts danced in the night sky;
A sign of love, in a galaxy of cold rejection.
Constellations of feelings I had for you,
Were gazed at by the eyes of lonely sky watchers;
They seen my dreams as cosmic dust, in wonder
Spread across the boundless sea of space.
As we grew, the tangled wires of our hearts sent hot sparks in motion;
Sparks that lit the fires from which you smothered,
And from which I burned.
The exodus of love bore a supernova trail of...

What use is truth, if not well told?
Our sins in life cannot be sold
Where love is felt, It's never cold
What makes a man, I wonder?
Who says the ocean's dreams are blue?
Who holds the key to me and you?
The finer things in life are new
The strain our hearts are under
What use is life, if not well led?
What if dreams escape my head?
What if all the world is dead?
My heart was yours to plunder
So well a wish can burn out fast
It's only those we hide that last
But in our hearts the die is cast
Your tumbled words of...
