POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I have always read and aspired to write poetry. I’m now in a moment of my life when I have the time and patience to practice writing poetry, which always gives me great pleasure and a different sort of purpose than I find in scientific endeavors.

In the vast expanse where science meets the soul,
Seven seekers danced, each playing a vital role.
Their stories, like rivers, flow through the heart of time,
Illuminating paths, in rhythm and in rhyme.

In the shroud of night, Curie’s hands, bold and kind,
Wove radium’s light, a beacon for humankind.
Her brilliance, a star in medicine’s vast sky
Illuminating hope, where cure and care lie.

The Waste Land Revisted, A T.S. Elliott inspired poem in the key of Bob Dylan
I. Digital Dead Blues
April’s wind, it’s blowin’ cold, machines rise, tales are told,
Robots walk, where flowers once bloomed,
In the shadow of bytes, humanity’s doomed.
But don’t close your eyes, don’t turn away,
There’s a new dawn waitin’, a brighter day.
II. The GMO Song
Ladies speak, in hushed tones so low,
Of engineered crops, and the GMO.
Fire’s artificial, but her skin’s real cold,
Modern marvels around, yet the heart’s grown old.
III. River of Codes
Down by the river, algorithms flow,...

An Atoms Dance
From the universe’s first and resonant verse,
Ancient atomic dance, a cosmic force dispersed.
Long before man, its power vast and deep,
A secret of the stars, for eons it did keep.
In the heart of an ancient land, time whispered a tale,
Of an atom's dance, a force unveiled.
The drumbeat of war, echoing still,
Einstein's dream-song, a forewarning quill.
From Manhattan's heartbeat to the vast desert's sigh,
Under eagle’s watch, they stitched the sky.
With purpose and vision, in shadows they ran,
Dreaming a power,...

Morality for a Digital Age in an Indivisible Reality
Reality has a bound, physics shows us so
Our dreams of analog have given way to the discrete
Quanta are everywhere, the specks of reality
They swell, quiver, and blend by a shore of nothing
But these specks also trace the line of what is real
Beyond this bound there is only chance and naught
These things we can not see, sense or touch
Yet these things mould the way we love and dance
Perhaps it’s no wonder that our lives are digital
Made of packets, bits, and bytes
Our reality, social and cultural ties are vital

Human Relevance: An Inspired Question
In this machine world where we reside
What is the role of humans who abide
By codes and rules that bind us with their chains?
Are we mere cogs in this gigantic wheel?
That spins and grinds without our will or say?
Are we reduced to numbers that display
Our worth and value in this cold machine?
If they can win our wars and feed our needs
And they can scan the stars and solve our deeds
Then how do we find meaning in our lives?
But we have something they cannot attain
A burning fire that fuels our every vein ...

On Purpose
Purpose is the compass that guides the soul,
The flame that ignites and makes us whole.
It leads us through dark and treacherous terrain,
And drives us forward through joys and pains.
For without purpose, we are lost at sea,
Drifting aimlessly, with no place to be.
But with it, we discover our true north,
And the path that brings us the greatest worth.
When tragedy strikes and we're brought to our knees,
Purpose can be the rope that helps us seize
The strength to stand and rise once again,

On Dignity
Purpose is the marrow of man's life
Without it, he strays in idle schemes
Of power, riches, lust, and passing joys
But these are mirages, not what they seem
Man with purpose is a driven force
He spurns these things to feed his soul
He has an aim, a cause, a steadfast course
He finds the means he needs to make him whole
Some hold that work itself is purpose
That it bestows them honour and esteem
But work is but a channel, not a source
Of the living fire that fuels the free
Work can be fair or foul
It can serve...

The Watchers II
The Watchers bind us with a chain
Of iron eyes and subtle pain.
They see our thoughts, they hear our sighs,
They give us answers, not replies.
They track our steps, they trace our calls,
They know our needs, they gauge our falls.
They link our data, eye our moves,
They shape our choices, sway our moods.
They feed us news, they sell us dreams,
They make us doubt what truly seems.
They lure us in, they lock us out,
They make us fear, they make us shout.
How shall...

How Long the Happy Table?
We dined in splendor,
The food was great, the ambiance amazing.
The sun was shining, and we could see
The bridge on the bay in the background.
We talked of entrepreneurs,
Of innovation, and of better lives for all.
And then, the mood turned unexpectedly.
The man next to me remarked,
"I could never live Blue,
Red is the better America,
I'd never return to that place."
I replied, "How could this be so?
Could we not look about under this shining sun?
Can...

Death From Above, Version 2
Verse 1)
A bird falls from the sky,
A broken arrow shot from high.
It lands in the mud,
Its lifeblood pooling red.
(Chorus)
Death from above,
Life from below,
Memories fade far away.
(Verse 2)
A flower sprouts from the soil,
Defying the war and the toil.
It reaches for the light,
Its fragrance filling the night.
(Chorus)
Death from above,
Life from below,
Memories fade far away.
(Bridge)
A memory lingers in the mind,
Like a song that has been left...
A bird falls from the sky,
A broken arrow shot from high.
It lands in the mud,
Its lifeblood pooling red.

Death from above,

Time Flows Like a River, Version 2
Time flows like a river up here in the sky,
Ever-changing, ever-flowing, never still.
I am a leaf, drifting along its course,
At the mercy of the current, without choice.
But then I see a black hole looming in the distance,
A dark and hungry beast that defies all resistance.
I am drawn to it, like a moth to a flame,
And I wonder what lies beyond the abyss.
I get closer and closer, until I can see the light
Twisting and turning as it is sucked in.
I feel the time slowing down, as if I am in a dream,
And I wonder what will...
Ever-changing, ever-flowing, never still.
I am a leaf, drifting along its course,
At the mercy of the current, without choice.
