POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I write what comes to mind. I collect inspiration throughout my day, then come home and put them into words. Some days are more inspirational than others, so naturally the stretch of time between each poem release is rather inconsistent. Sorry about that!
The Songbird
The songbird sits in his nest perched,
Aloft the swaying silver birch.
And if he looks down now, he'll see,
The wandering mind of love's absentee.
For winter has come upon the land,
The once blue waters, ice upon sand.
Though chilled he is as he stares to the firth,
All but his heart is warmed by fiery hearth.
Yea he wanders bleak and weary,
For to seek an end to timeless query.
And yet no answers on earth he'll find,
To still the tempest of his mind.
The songbird whistles upon his nest,

Man of the Islands
I am a man of the Islands, lads,
With ne'er an obstructed view.
And when the boat approaches,
My worries are rare and few.
I'll lift my glass to future and past,
On the shores embracing the blue.
If you've never been, though king or queen
I'll never wish I were you.
Oh sitting on the water,
With tackle in my hand.
A storm is quickly coming,
Like a thundering marching band.
I'll turn my boat still half afloat,
And aim her towards the sands.
At the end of day, through wind and spray,
I catch the most throughout the land....
With ne'er an obstructed view.
And when the boat approaches,
My worries are rare and few.
I'll lift my glass to future and past,

The Measure of Man
What decides the measure of a Man?
For what's his purpose?
He, from his family's nest they tore
To send him back once they've settled their score,
Though he suffers long after that awful war.
Oh, what decides the measure of man?
What is to be made of our Fathers?
For what is their purpose?
They keep us steady as we grow,
Then later behind locked doors them we throw,
Forgetting that our gilded paths were paved long ago.
Oh, what is to be made of our Fathers?
What is to be made of the Helpless?
For what's their purpose?
To pass...
For what's his purpose?

To send him back once they've settled their score,

The Remedy
When my life is all to dust,
And I dare not see tomorrow,
I take the drink
Till' I cannot think
To remedy my sorrow.
And if he were ever to leave,
Though I am want to marry,
I'll take not a chance,
But take its advance,
And my troubles in drink to bury.
And I dare not see tomorrow,
I take the drink
Till' I cannot think
To remedy my sorrow.
And if he were ever to leave,
Though I am want to marry,
I'll take not a chance,
But take its advance,
And my troubles in drink to bury.

Why Should We Weep?
Why should we weep,
When fortune goes astray?
Plug your nose, hold your breath,
And await another day.
And why should we weep,
When the sun refuses to shine?
Tip your head and feel the rain,
It's sweeter than rose wine.
And why should we weep,
When life fills us with doubt?
Look ever to the Word,
To shelter, never flout.
And why should we weep,
When our love ones lay to rest?
Their spirits rise and fly away,
On Earth no longer guest.
And why should we weep,
when our bodies come to fail?
We're all one...
When fortune goes astray?
Plug your nose, hold your breath,
And await another day.
And why should we weep,
When the sun refuses to shine?
Tip your head and feel the rain,
It's sweeter than rose wine.
And why should we weep,
When life fills us with doubt?
Look ever to the Word,

The Third Door
Down blind alleys I have groped,
Not finding light as I had hoped.
Then round one corner by chance I moped,
And came upon a trail.
At once a voice as loud as thunder,
My piece of mind to further plunder,
And placed in me a worried wonder,
My sturdy knees gone frail.
The sight of me must have been a gas,
A whimpering, whining, quivering mass,
For my courage then gave me a pass,
As a hound does wag his tail.
"If your life you seek to profit,
Take my torch and never drop it.

A Song for my Sally
In the meadow,
I feel the wind.
Beneath the shadow,
Of two mountain twins.
In the valley,
Long forgotten,
I see my Sally,
Her hair like cotton.
I wish she'd see me
But I ask too much,
She's only a ghost,
That I fear to touch.
So my strength to rally,
And I try to be brave.
I sing to my Sally,
As I sit by her grave.
I feel the wind.
Beneath the shadow,
Of two mountain twins.
In the valley,
Long forgotten,
I see my Sally,
Her hair like cotton.
I wish she'd see me
But I ask too much,
She's only a ghost,
That I fear to touch.
So my strength to rally,
And I try to be brave.
I sing to my Sally,
As I sit by her grave.

By Éirinn's Blood
I'll tell you a tale
Of a cruel foreign king.
From England he hailed
With songs his like sing.
Our people can't rest
With no Celts in our glens.
So we sent out our best
To taste freedom again.
And along Her fair boulders
My brother and I
Rode among Her fair soldiers,
A glint in my eye.
We rounded the glen,
I surely did spy,
A band of English men,
Arranged in three lines.
Éirinn's great people
Will surely be free.
For our hearts are not feeble,
And we'll let England see.
For when we charged...

Meet Me by the Lilacs
Meet me by the lilacs
In the turn of the river's edge.
And there by night reveal to me
The worth of your heart's pledge.
Love me by the lilacs
In the warmth of springtime's glow.
Invest in me the strength to bare
The turmoil life can throw.
Marry me by the lilacs
Fulfill my one true wish
And never throw my heart away
But suspend me in true bliss.
Bring to me the lilacs
When my body fails the job.
Garnish my hair with the pretty flowers
And place them in my fob.
Bury me by the lilacs
In the shade of that...
In the turn of the river's edge.
And there by night reveal to me
The worth of your heart's pledge.

Slow like youthful days

Parcels of my Mind
Moments like these create memories
Like ornaments shining on the tree.
When I look deeply into them,
I end up seeing nothing
But my own eyes and face
Aging with each year.
Christmas is a time for rejoicing
In the birth of a godly child.
Giving me feelings similar to those
On the birthday of my own children,
For a father can't help but see
In his own child's face, the face of god.
My mantle is lined with pictures from the years.
A weary juxtaposition
Between memories both recent and distant.
For, like in the ornaments, I...

Apollo's Wheel
I don't believe I'll ever tire of that sight.
The golden sun peeling away the darkness,
From the night's virgin sky.
A new day is delivered.
At night I am lonely with neither love nor friends.
For years ago I ventured out to win my solitude.
Good company was quite a price to pay,
But by the sun it is reimbursed.
For at the dawning of the day I am nourished.
Melancholy's cold grips melt away.
Dewy diamonds glitter upon Apollo's fingertips,
As he reaches towards his infinite destiny.
That heavenly vessel sails atop the stillest of...
