SWEET DREAMS
SWEET DREAMS
I see you lay there sleeping, your hair soft and shining, as it too rests across your pillow.
Your breathing is slow, and everything about you is peaceful, except for the slight movement of your body as the sweet night air is drawn in between your tender lips that are still anointed with remains of lipstick. Your shoulders are bare and feel soft as I gently brush my lips against them. You turn to re-settle and my eyes are overwhelmed with all beauty they can see. Every part of you awakens my very soul, and to see this … all of this, which is mine to savour, I am...

HOW MY GARDEN GROWS
HOW MY GARDEN GROWS
How wonderful it feels to me, just sat here in the sun
The gentle movement of a breeze, just make it so much fun
I see the well laid footpaths, with fancy edging stones
Hours of work and sweating, and some very weary bones
A borderline of conifers, to mark the garden path
A table and a basin, for the birds to have a bath
So many different flowers, separated by a pond
Where creatures often visit, it’s a place they find so fond
The sound of pigeons cooing, as buzzing bees fly by
I can see the coy carp feeding,...

A MILLION TEARS
A MILLION TEARS
Nobody knows the times I’ve wept, on the tear soaked pillow wear I slept
No-one dares to ask me why, so many things have made me cry
The rising of the morning sun, that brings it’s warmth to everyone
Busy people out of bed, confronting problems in their head
Read the paper eat your toast, which news-paper sells the most
Someone killed a star is born, mixed up stories of the dawn
Nobody knows the...

JUST CHILDREN
JUST CHILDREN
When you open wide your eyes, and you open up your mind
Take a look around you, you’ll be very sure to find
On the streets before you playing, like they always do
Together doing all the things, we also used to do
Just take a good long look into, those happy lustrous eyes
And see those happy faces that are true, and free from lies
Sit and watch them long enough, together friendship binds
No prejudice or hatred words, just simple virgin minds
They take a lot of notice of, the birds and flowers and bees
Pay intricate...

SAT IN MY OWN BOAT
SAT IN MY OWN BOAT
Sea flies and dragon flies, looking up to blue skies…sat in my own boat.
Ships that roam on ocean foam, here I am all alone… sat in my own boat.
Jumping fish and jellyfish, prawns to make a seafood dish… sat in my own boat.
Submarines and Royal Marines, nothing here to spoil my dreams… sat in my own boat.
Clippers race and seagulls chase, the wind is blowing in my face… sat in my own boat.
Seaweed floating and sailors boating, a shark goes by its belly bloating… sat in my own boat.
Sunburned skin and oars pulled...

DO I NEED SOME GLASSES
DO I NEED SOME GLASSES
I don’t suppose I’ve ever thought, about these eyes of mine
Since I was just a kid they’ve always, worked for me just fine
Riding on my bicycle, or swinging to and fro
My eyes they help to guide me, wherever I may go
The colours of the rainbow, grey clouds just floating by
A golden sun that’s shining, a pale moon in the sky
Pictures of a holiday, with family and friends
My eyes they see so many things, their work just never ends
So many books...

JOIN THE UNION
JOIN THE UNION
(inspired by personal experiences)
So you think you’re in and settled, and the job is yours at last
No problem doing shifts and, all your worries in the past
At last you’re earning money, and your bills can now be paid
No sleepless nights of worrying, no need to feel afraid
You’ve got your brand new safety shoes, a locker for your stuff
But the company won’t protect you, when everything gets tough
You’re vulnerable and on your own, you may have been selected
When things go wrong and you get blamed, you need to be...

MY DEAR OLD DAD
MY DEAR OLD DAD
I was walking past the wine lodge; I could smell the sweet white wine
This place I used to drink in, with that dear old dad of mine
He’d been a para-trooper, in his young days as a lad
The war had made him angry, and his dreams at night were bad
He got a job in Civvy Street, with a demolition gang
And in the club at week-end, played piano and he sang
The jokes we shared were many, we laughed into the night
And often we would drink too much, then go and start a fight
My dad could shift a lot of drink; he loved his...

A GRAND ARRAY OF NOTHING
A GRAND ARRAY OF NOTHING
Just when you think you’re winning, and things seem quite alright
It’s often the case that hell befalls, and you just can’t sleep at night
The rain is falling heavy, and the wind blows hard and strong
Accompanied by lightening and, the boom of the devils gong
You feel your brain is spinning, you’re restless and awake
This problem won’t let go of you, life’s not a piece of cake
No matter how you look at things, it seems there’s no way through
Frustration is no help right now, whatever can I do
I sometimes...

The Old Man's Grave
THE OLD MAN’S GRAVE
I was watching from a distance, as they lowered the coffin down
Another soul had passed away, I felt my facial frown
The family were weeping, as the prayers were duly read
This rather sad occasion meant, a friend indeed was dead
So many tears were falling, and such pain from all the hearts
The padre speaking final prayers, before the man departs
A family member then decides, to say some simple words
It was then I knew just who it was, the man who fed the birds
The cenotaph was where he sat, he’d have a smoke or...
