i've been writing since the ninth grade. Started out doing love and pain stuff. Switched to more inspirational and instructive words as i've gotten closer to 50. lots of my work is self therapeutic. Hope to help someone else.

Lonely Silence
MLK, Jr. has a quote along these lines, "It is not the words of our enemies that we remember most painfully, but the silence of our friends"
The over-50 me understands this much more clearly than did the 25 yr old me.
And here is my addition to this wisdom.
"It is not fear of attack/punishment/condemnation from outsiders which stay my hand or cause me anguish; it is the knowledge that members of my own group will stand aside, and do nothing, leaving me at the mercy of those who would do me harm.

Why I Write
Got a reason for speakn
For telling what I tell
Got a goal in my mind
When I'm selling what I sell
Got a Spark in my Soul
And it comes from the Divine
Got a message for myself
to seek the truth that's really mine
Making sense of these words
as they flutter thru my mind
Taking life as it comes
Discovering the peace I seek to find

V is For...
Vulnerability,
and also,
for Violence
Which many default to when accused of the former
A knee-jerk reaction based upon fear
misplaced, and often, incorrect
I believe Vulnerability is a tender spot,
Like an ancient manuscript it is easily damaged if mishandled,
but full of wonderful wisdoms and best protected by a loved one's careful touch
Not the same thing as Weakness,
Which as an inability to protect oneself
And requires an aggressive self-protection
'cause others may seek it
and...
and also,
for Violence

Government is a Scam
Government is a sanctioned shell game that lets contributing and controlling businesses make gobs of money out the wazoo while sticking "it" deep into me and you
Well Damn It's a Scam
Whether by truck, plane, or tram
Do crime against Big Business
And with Fed Tyme you'll be slammed
Reagan "fired" striking air traffic controllers
Canada's Prime Minister "intervened" against the railroad workers
Biden "took an interest" and "offered assistance" for Teamsters and rail workers to find resolution...

Shelf Life
Pretty has a shelf life
Beauty never expires
Fashions change
Trends go away
Eyesight fades
Appreciation and adoration come from the soul;
and are felt even with one's eyes closed
Just like a faded rose pressed into a memory book,
all that looks good will one day lose its prettiness
Even the powerful fragrance that made one's head spin giddily
Will dissipate in time
But those incredible feelings
Inspired when these memories, which nourish and sustain your soul were formed,
Will always remain...

I am 55 now
And the sum of my learnings and experiences
Because of my past interactions with people who look like you,
I have certain,
and limited,
expectations for you in a given conversation or situation
I will give you the chance to show your real self,
good in my eyes or bad,
to me

the first time you show me some bad stuff;
I'm lumping you in with the rest of the trash

Father Tyme Brings Young Lions
Once upon a Tyme
I was a Fearsome Monster
Once upon a Tyme
I was a Sho Nuff Beast
Once upon a Tyme
I could walk into a room full of Strong Men
And they would step aside for Me
Then Father Tyme came to visit me
Now
you can still see the Shadow of the monster
And,
sometimes, the Shades of the once mighty beast
But now,
when I step into a room full of Strong Men
It is I,
who stands aside for these Young Lions

ain't what makes you my kin
Doing the same good
is what makes you my blood

Seals
Motorcycle clubs
Masons
Omegas
We come together
To fight the same fight
Might not look the same
But stand strong for a brother's rights
Can't judge a book by the cover
The Amish and Proud Boys may look alike and sport the same beards
But those two groups could not be more different
Rudyard Kipling may have come from the same place as Gandhi

Magnificent Is What You Are
You don't have to be attracted to me
to be attractive to me
Whether you say "no"
Or say nothing
You still gon be fine in my eyes
I'm still gon see you as beautiful
and erotically arousing
Wanting to touch you
Or kiss you
and taste you and fill you
Have nothing to do with me ever meeting or speaking with you
If I ask, and you say "no",
I will not ask again

Grumpy Old Man (Passing The Torch)
Okay, then.
I'm gon let you do it your way. Especially if it works for you.
I know you have a brain. And I know it works. (Much as I hate admitting that one.) Plus, I'm tired of arguing.
I still think what you are doing is unnecessary. But that's mainly cuz the way I do it (and kept pushing you to follow) works just fine for me. And it has worked for years.
Fortunately, I have seen enough in my time on this Earth to be aware that "my way" is not the "only way". I'm experienced enough to realize that your way does have its merits.
